It is diagnosed when the vet takes a scraping from the surface of the skin and the cells are looked at under the microscope.
Demodex is a variant of mange that is not contagious; it becomes a problem when the mite numbers are increased dramatically and it starts to cause skin disease. Mange causes scabs, hair loss, and itchiness.

What has four legs, two wheels and the most beautiful smile?
Introducing WOOKIE! Wookie was having increasing difficulty walking until eventually she couldn’t move or feel her hind limbs.
She was taken to the Animal Referral Centre in Auckland. Where she had surgery to decompress part of her spinal cord.
Wookie has been in the Kerikeri clinics hospital for coming up one week, she is receiving daily intensive care some of which involves medicating, ice compression, light therapy, physiotherapy and maintaining her urinary catheter.
She has another appointment at ARC in the coming weeks to re evaluate her progress.
We are loving seeing her smile each day in the clinic, especially while racing around outside. Wishing you the best outcome and speedy recovery Wookie ❤️

The world record for puppies born is 24, whilst our team did not break a world record, Ghost an American Bulldog gave birth to 16 beautiful puppies on Tuesday.
Huge congratulations to Ghost , and the whole Kerikeri Clinic who were involved in the puppies safe delivery.
