Meet Kelvin Zoetendal!

Equine veterinary nurse Kelvin joined the team at MVS EquiBreed for the season. Hailing from The Netherlands, Kelvin Graduated last year and since then has been passionate about genetics and all the research that goes into producing future athletes. Growing up in Friesland he also has a soft spot for a beautiful Friesian!

Sadly, as the season slows down Kelvin leaves us, but he is off to an exciting new role at VDL Stud for the breeding season in the northern hemisphere.

Kelvin has made some firm friends here in NZ whom he has enjoyed traveling with and going for hikes, we know he won't be a stranger!

I love taking photos of the mares and foals in our care and sending them through to the clients as I know how stressful it can be handing over part of your extended family to people you don’t know. I’ve been lucky enough to be involved in many generations of family trees! This one stands out. These two babies, belonging to long time client Debra Bromiley, were chalk and cheese yet firm friends. They HAD to be touching when they rested and often both stood in the crush as thier mum/auntie was scanned. It was a suprise when I looked at the dates that these two would now be 8 or 9 !! 🥰

Teamwork makes the dreamwork.
The season wouldn't have been the same without these two girls!! MVS EquiBreed technicians Kiera and Jordan leave us today to embark on the next chapters of their careers. As Kiera heads down to Telford to study Level 5 Rural Animal Technician, Jordan is off over the ditch to work for Ultra Thoroughbreds in Melbourne. These girls certainly kept their steps up every day bringing the mares in for scanning, always smiling and making sure the mares received plenty TLC. Best of luck girls and thank you for all your hard work!!

It's a wonder we get any work done at all with little beauties like these two to hang out with!

Here at MVS EquiBreed we can cater for all your mare's needs regardless of size (or shape). Our holding pens (normally used for mares waiting to be scanned) are the perfect size for Sarah and her gorgeous foal Joco from Bayview Miniatures. With just the right amount of green stuff to keep mum happy and fences small enough to keep baby safe! Fun really does come in all shapes and sizes!!

Meet the team Tuesday

Meet our MVS EquiBreed Manager, Marsha Crinion. With a career in the thoroughbred industry that spans 17 years many of you may already know Marsha! Having worked in NZ for the last 11 years she has been immersed in both racing and breeding and was super excited to take on a new challenge within our team. Moving to the Waikato with her partner Trev and two little boys Marsha is loving helping clients out with the advanced reproductive services MVS Equibreed can offer and is only a phone call away to answer any questions you may have.

Marsha is seen here with mare Kumara owned by Lianne Inkster. Kumara was recently returned home in foal to VDL Zirocco Blue with a friend in tow, MVS EquiBreed recipient mare, Bougainville, who is carrying an embryo flushed from Kumara!

Meet the team Tuesday!!

Dr Ria Harteveld is a huge part of the MVS EquiBreed team, with a few seasons under her belt with EquiBreed we are very proud to have her as part of the new MVS EquiBreed venture!

Ria is a well-travelled veterinarian from The Netherlands. Early in Ria’s career, she completed her final MSc thesis studying lameness in Thoroughbreds at Massey University, so she has always been attracted to the green pastures of NZ! In between graduating and joining our team, Ria was a polo groom, she completed an Equine Hospital Internship in Newbury UK, and was a stud veterinarian in Ballarat Australia, an equine reproduction veterinarian at EquiLife in The Netherlands and at Twemlows Stud Farm UK before venturing to EquiBreed NZ for two consecutive seasons.

Ria has been an integral member of the embryo transfer program, and she is involved in several research projects including the longevity of frozen semen, endometritis and the effects of altrenogest on pregnancy. Ria is beginning her pathway to specialise in veterinary reproduction, mentored by Drs Lee Morris and Babiche Heil, both of whom many of you will already know.

We love working with Ria as she calmly and diligently manages the mares to optimize their chances of conception for our kiwi breeders. In her spare time Ria loves to explore NZ, watch polo games and get to the races when she can 😀

Meet the team Tuesday!!!

For many of you this will be the first voice you’ll hear when you are looking to breed the next generation!!
Meet Coby Brown.
Coby was born and bred in The Netherlands and moved here to New Zealand with her family at young age. She has lived in Matamata for more years than she cared to share with me!
Coby lives with her husband and two sons on a nearby dairy farm and is regularly out there feeding calves before she heads into the office.
Growing up, Coby was surrounded by showjumpers and is often seen helping out at thoroughbred sales. Coby is thoroughly enjoying this new venture and is delighted to help you with all things Repro!

MVS EquiBreed & MVS Equine have come on board with the New Zealand Warmblood Association and the Sport and Performance Horse Association of New Zealand to help streamline the registration process for our client’s sport horse foals.

Both NZWA and SPHANZ provide breeders/owners with FEI Approved International Passports which record the date of birth, pedigree, microchip and ID along with the breeder and ownership details of the horse. This safeguards your precious foal as it moves forward into the competition world, making sure that all details are correctly recorded and able to be accessed via an online database portal.

MVS EquiBreed & MVS Equine now hold the passport ID forms for both of these stud books/registries and our vets will be encouraging our sport horse breeders to get their foals microchipped and identified when we are treating your mare and foal for re-breeding or any post-natal care.

Remember a microchip can be inserted at any age and it is handy to get everything done in one visit!

MVS EquiBreed & MVS Equine are proud to be industry leaders from foals right up to the competition arena and we fully encourage the traceability and identification aspects that passports allow for.

Please contact us on 07 888 8193 for further information.
