Meet the Team- Monique- our superstar Receptionist.
Monique is one of the welcoming faces you will see when you walk through our front doors. Monique joined the Veterinary Associates Team back in 2016.
She is a vital part of our reception team. She has the biggest smile and her exceptional people skills make sure our clients receive a warm welcome. Monique has years of experience and a wide range of product knowledge. She loves to chat to our clients, give advice about flea products, food, and much more

Outside of the clinic she loves going for walks and generally being social. Monique has three cats called George, Violet and Poppy. She also has a little bichon named Benji and many farm animals.

We believe we are so lucky to have someone like Monique in our team who is very passionate about her job and ensures that each client is well taken care of and appreciated.

Meet The Team- Dr Tim Powell

Tim has recently joined our team making the move from the UK. Tim graduated from The Royal Veterinary College in 2021.

His main interest lie within small animal surgery and emergency and critical care but likes to develop new skills in all aspects of Veterinary care. Tim has started to explore orthopaedics and BOAS surgery. He loves working with the full team to ensure the best possible outcome is achieved for his patients.

When not in clinic Tim enjoys going for hikes with his dog Flop. He has been practising carpentry for as long as he can remember and has recently discovered a passion for working with leather. Tim enjoys being outdoors and out fly fishing.

We are so thankful Tim has chosen to settle in New Zealand and join our team. He fits in perfectly.

Tim is looking forward to meeting all our wonderful clients and learning some new skills here.

Meet The Team- Dr Andrew Bootle

Andrew has been part of the Veterinary Associates Takanini team since 2005 after graduating with distinction from Massey University in 2001.

He is an excellent diagnostician and clinician. His particular area of interest includes; general animal well being, medicine, radiology and clinical pathology. You will usually see Andrew coming in and out of our consult rooms. Andrew is also passionate about getting junior veterinarians trained and learning new skills to become the best vets they can be.

When he is not in clinic he enjoys spending time with his family and fishing.

We are so lucky to have the experience and knowledge Andrew brings to our team.

So your dog injured it’s cruciate ligament. What’s next?

We offer multiple surgical procedures to help your pet. For the larger dogs we recommend a Triple tibial osteotomy or TTO.

This is a surgical procedure performed when there is an injury to the cranial cruciate ligament (CCL). The surgery is when the tibia (shin bone) is cut in three places and a small wedge is removed. We then take a small piece of bone from the wedge removed and use it as a bone graft in the gap made to aid healing. Due to the bone being surgically altered, a surgical steel plate is applied to keep the bone in place while it heals. This alters the stifle (knee) so that the CCL is no longer needed to stabilise the joint.

Recovery is 12 weeks of crate rest and physiotherapy. We may recommend different methods of therapy to aid healing including at home physiotherapy, hydrotherapy or laser therapy.

Our case is the beautiful Summer. A 7 year old ‘South Auckland Special’
Summer had her 2nd TTO on her left stifle in August with our vet Dr Eckhard Stalmann and Dr Robyn de Lange. Straight after surgery Rochelle from Canine Healing Hands performed laser therapy on Summers’ surgical site. 

Laser therapy or photobiomodulation therapy, is a non invasive and great for aiding healing. A special light is used to pe*****te the skin tissue and opens up blood flow to the area. Summer received about 12 sessions with Rochelle. After 8 days her surgical wound was completely healed (the normal is 14 days).
At her 12 week post-op radiographs we see bone replenishing the gaps where our incision in the bone was. Compared to her X-rays from her first TTO where Summer didn’t receive laser therapy, we saw even better results. Now 16 weeks after her big operation Summer is back to her normal self enjoying hikes and adventures again.

💕Romeo 💕 Romeo was attacked by a much bigger dog and suffered life threatening injuries and a large open wound. Fortunately for us he survived and his mum brought him to us for help to close the wound. After 2 surgery’s Dr Eckhard managed to close the wound. He also scored some awesome bandage art by the nurses. Our little super man was such a brave patient and never put up a fuss. He is now back to his normal happy self.
