Meet Dahlia and Dumpling: A Dynamic Duo Looking for a Forever Home!

Introducing Dahlia, a brave and resilient girl who has faced a tough start to life. After giving birth on a property where she couldn’t return, she spent her days caring not only for her own babies but also helping another mom cat with hers. Despite the challenges she faced, Dahlia has always had a loving heart and cherished the moments when she received gentle pats.
Once her babies were adopted, Dahlia initially became shy again. However, everything changed when Dumpling came into her life! This sweet pairing has brought out the best in Dahlia; with Dumpling by her side, her personality brightened up significantly! Together they share an unbreakable bond that we believe should stay intact as they transition to their forever home.
Dahlia is looking for a warm and understanding environment where both she and Dumpling can thrive together. They complement each other beautifully—Dahlia's sweet nature paired with Dumpling's playful spirit makes them an ideal duo for any loving family.
If you're ready to open your heart and home to this dynamic pair of cuties, come meet Dahlia and Dumpling today! They can't wait to bring joy into your life while sharing their love with you! 🐾💖✨Located in New Lynn

She is desexed, microchipped, fully vaccinated and litter trained.
Dumpling will be desexed this coming week

# # # A Heart-Wrenching Encounter: The Day We Met a Cat "Gruff" in Need

Oh boy. It’s been one of those days—one filled with a rollercoaster of emotions that I can’t quite shake off. I’ve spent the entire day trying to muster the courage to share this story, and here we go. Buckle up, because it’s a tough one.

This morning started like any other day at the rescue until a lady brought over the cat she trapped she asked for help—a cat that had clearly seen better days. She was visibly worried but determined to help this poor creature who had somehow found its way to her front porch. Apparently, she had been feeding him for some time now after he showed up on her doorstep looking lost and hungry. After noticing signs that he needed urgent veterinary care—his body condition being the most glaring indicator—she decided enough was enough; it was time to ensure he got not only food but proper medical attention.

As soon as I laid eyes on this furry fellow, my heart sank into my stomach like a lead balloon. This wasn’t just any cat; it was an embodiment of neglect—a living testament to how some people can be so careless about those they once claimed to love. He looked malnourished beyond belief, his scruffy fur matted and tangled like something out of a horror movie. Seriously, NOT ONE cat deserves to live in such conditions! The original “owner” clearly didn’t give a s**t about him or his well-being.

After gathering our thoughts (and trying not to drown in my own anger), I headed to the vet clinic with our new friend nestled carefully in a carrier. Once there, we were hit with reality: what lay beneath all those mats wasn’t just unkempt fur but also pain and suffering etched into every frail bone.

I’ll spare you all the graphic details (you’re welcome!), but let me tell you—it was heartbreaking! The vet examined him thoroughly; we quickly discovered just how bad things really were—the extent of neglect became painfully clear as checking through his tanglied coat which revealed layers upon layers of dirt and flea infestations along with signs he had been living rough for far too long without proper care or attention.

And guess what? He wasn’t microchipped or desexed either—not exactly shocking considering how badly he'd been neglected by whoever used to call themselves his owner! To top it off, we learned he only had about five teeth left intact—five! What kind of life is that? Hidden beneath all that matted fur were stories untold; tales filled with hunger pains and loneliness echoing through empty alleyways where nobody cared if he lived or died.

When we got back blood results from testing revealed even more reason for concern: internally ill as well… muscle loss so severe you could feel multiple bones under his thin skin as if they were begging for help too! It's moments like these when you're reminded why animal welfare exists—the rage wells up inside because humans are capable of such cruelty!

The lady who found him held onto hope amidst her worry.. But then came the moment no one ever wants—the phone call I made delivering devastating news: despite everything there weren’t any options left besides letting this sweet soul cross over Rainbow Bridge peacefully without suffering anymore pain than necessary.

We both cried together during that phone conversation—it felt utterly unfair—I mean seriously!! He didn’t deserve this fate after whatever hellish existence had come before today… As hard as it is saying goodbye sometimes you have no choice but give them comfort during their final minutes on Earth while showering them with kisses & hugs knowing it's likely he's free now from suffering and can finally rest.

Let me just interject here—I seriously don’t understand how some people can neglect their pets to such an extent. It boils my blood! I’ve seen too many cases of cats and dogs abandoned or left to fend for themselves by owners who couldn’t care less. If you’re going to bring a pet into your life, you have a responsibility—not just for the cute moments when they’re playful and cuddly, but also during the hard times when they might need extra love and care.

This whole experience has left me feeling mixed with anger and sadness. How could someone let their pet reach such a state? It’s heartbreaking to think that this cat spent potentially months, if not years, living on the streets—scavenging for food, battling fleas, suffering through whatever ailments came his way alone. Each day must have felt like an eternity in purgatory while waiting for someone to notice him—and thankfully this lovely lady did.

People need to remember that pets aren’t disposable items; they are living beings that rely on us completely. Neglecting a pet is NOT acceptable—a little bit of love and attention goes a long way! I can't stress enough how important it is for all pet owners out there: please desex your animals! There are far too many unwanted litters born every year because irresponsible owners don’t take these steps seriously. And as we saw today, animals suffer unnecessarily when their needs go unmet.

I mean really—how would you feel if one day your loved ones decided they no longer wanted anything to do with you? The thought makes my stomach turn!

This cat’s story may have ended painfully today but let it serve as a reminder of what happens when good intentions aren’t followed through with action (which clearly was missing from his original home). Let’s strive towards creating better outcomes moving forward—advocate for those who cannot speak up themselves!

So here’s my plea: if you're considering adopting or already own pets—be responsible! Don’t abandon them; give them all the love they deserve instead of leaving them at the mercy of fate on cold streets where survival becomes daily torment…

As I wrap up this chaotic mix of emotions spilling onto my keyboard (thanks therapy session!), remember—the world could use more compassion towards our furry friends in distress… And maybe one less person treating these innocent souls like trash will make all the difference tomorrow!

Until next time folks—a hopeful heart goes out hoping no other furry friend would ever find themselves in such dire circumstances again...

We have helped desex 510 cats this year! And we couldn’t have done so without support from the community… 🧡♥️

Desexing cats is important to stop the cycle of overbreeding, often leading to unnecessary stress and suffering for the kittens, cats, and volunteers.

Female kittens as young as 4 months can get pregnant and give birth to multiple litters. Males can wander, get into scuffles with other cats causing injuries and impregnate females if not neutered. Together we can stop overbreeding!

Whether it’s desexing strays in your community, supporting members of the public to desex their pets, or through our rescue work, every little bit helps.

Thank you!
