Boarding your dogs

As we approach a busy time to send your dog for boarding here are some tips to help them enjoy their time away as much as you do!

What is Confinement Stress?

Confinement stress can occur when dogs are kept in unfamiliar environments or confined spaces when they are not used to being locked away.

This stress can manifest as anxiety, excessive barking, destructive behaviour or even physical symptoms like loss of appetite.

It’s crucial to recognise that not all dogs cope well with boarding, especially if they are not accustomed to being away from their owners or in a crate / kennel-like setting.

How to Prepare Your Dog for Boarding ✅

Start crate training at home, keeping this in your dogs regular routine is super beneficial.

Consider arranging trial stays or short visits to help your dog acclimate.

Send familiar items with your dog, such as their bed or blanket.

Preparing your dog for boarding can significantly reduce the likelihood of confinement stress. By taking proactive steps, you can help your dog feel more at ease in a new environment, ensuring a positive boarding experience for both your dog and the person looking after your dog.

If you have concerns about your dog’s behaviour or anxiety, consider consulting a professional trainer or your vet for personalised advice and help.

SH16 HUAPAI - BRIDGE CLOSURE 27-30 SEP

As part of ongoing upgrades around the Huapai Triangle Special Housing Area, road renewal work on the State Highway 16 railway bridge near Tapu Rd (Huapai Rail Overpass) will require a 24/7 continuous full closure of SH16 between Station Rd and Tapu Rd for three nights (2 days) from 7pm, Friday 27 Sep until 5am, Monday 30 Sep.

During this period all through-traffic will be detoured via Access Rd and Station Rd in both directions. Plan ahead to allow extra time for this detour.

ROAD CLOSURE!!
Dear clients,
Please note that there are major road works coming through Kumeu towards Waimauku / Muriwai closing the bridge on State Highway 16. The best route to follow is to turn left into Access Road, at the lights coming into Kumeu. Then follow this along and turn right into Station Road. This will bypass the Road Closure, and bring you back into State Highway 16, at Huapai. The remainder of journey will remain the same.

Group Training Helensville ✨

3x week course run over Sunday mornings 9-10am starting October 6th.

Week 1️⃣: Pulling on the lead + Obedience training.

In this session, you will learn a foundation in lead handling and basic obedience commands. Your dog will learn to walk nicer on a lead while building engagement to handler.

Week 2️⃣: Coming When Called

This week, we’ll concentrate on enhancing your dog’s recall skills. Through a series of engaging exercises you will learn how to get your dog recalling around distractions.

Week 4️⃣: Group Training Walk

In the third week, we’ll put your training into practice with a group training walk. This session will help your dog learn to maintain focus and good behavior while interacting with other dogs and distractions. You’ll gain valuable experience in managing your dog’s behaviour in a social setting and reinforcing the skills learned in the previous weeks.
