🩺 Always With Your Pet 🩺

Our nursing team are with your pet from admit, through their hospital stay and procedure, right up until discharge. 💙🐾

They’re by your pet’s side every step of the way — caring, dedicated, and now bringing a little extra brightness into the hospital with their new theatre hats. 🌈

Jo and Melissa are ready to provide the very best care for today’s surgical patients. ✨

💙 Pets don’t have to suffer in silence 💙

Pain isn’t just part of “getting old.” Left untreated, it can affect how pets move, eat, sleep, and even how they interact with their family.

The good news? Pain can be recognised and supported — and with senior health checks, we can catch changes early and help pets stay comfortable, happy, and mobile. 🐾

This gorgeous face belongs to Bear, our receptionist Jo’s beautiful boy! 📸💙

This is Charlie 😻

He popped in for his vaccination and health check and clearly decided the top shelf was the best spot in the clinic!

We think he looks pretty pleased with himself… what do you think? 🪴🐾

🐾 Could your pet be in pain? 🐾

Our pets are experts at hiding discomfort — but pain often shows up in subtle ways. Some of the most common signs include:

🛋️ Decreased activity or reluctance to move

🐕Difficulty with stairs or jumping

🍲 Changes in appetite or chewing

😾 Behaviour changes like irritability or hiding

💤 Restlessness or sleeping more than usual

🐾 Reluctance to be touched or picked up

If you notice these changes, it may be more than “just old age.” Pain can affect every part of a pet’s life — but with the right support, we can help them stay comfortable and happy. 💙

👉 Book a check-up with our team if you’re concerned — early recognition makes all the difference.

🌟 Celebrating Vicki 🌟

This Friday marks the end of an era as we say goodbye to our much-loved team member, Vicki, who is retiring after an incredible 15 years with the clinic. 💐

From welcoming clients with her warm smile on reception to being a true core part of our team, Vicki has been at the heart of the clinic for over a decade. Her kindness, dedication, and knowledge have made such a difference to both our clients and their pets - and to all of us who have had the privilege of working alongside her. 🐾❤️

The clinic simply won’t be the same without her, but we are so excited for Vicki as she starts this next chapter.

✨ Vicki’s last shift is this Friday — please join us in wishing her all the very best in her well-deserved retirement!

🌟 September is Pain Awareness Month 🌟

As pets age, many people assume slowing down or being less active is “just part of getting older.” But often, these changes are actually signs of pain. 🐾

The good news? Pain can be recognised and supported. With regular vet check-ups - like senior health checks - we can catch pain early and help keep your pet happy, mobile, and comfortable. 💙

👉 Keep an eye out for our next post, where we’ll share the most common signs of pain in pets.

📸 Buddy the Bulldog 📸

The handsome 12-year-old Buddy was in recently for an ear check — but of course, he couldn’t resist a quick photoshoot with nurses Jo and Antoinette along the way. 🐾✨

You might have already spotted him… Buddy is now a local celebrity, featuring in the recent edition of Mahurangi Matters! 📰💙

✨ Weird & Wonderful Animal Facts! ✨

We love our furry (and fluffy!) patients, but did you know these fun facts about small animals? 🐾

🐇 Rabbit teeth never stop growing — which is why chewing hay daily is so important to keep them healthy.

🐹 Guinea pigs can’t make Vitamin C on their own (just like us humans!). They need it from veggies or a good quality diet to stay well.

🐕 A dog’s nose print is completely unique, just like our fingerprints. Researchers and even some apps are now exploring them as a way to identify pets!

🐈 Cats have more bones in their spine than we do — giving them that amazing flexibility for twisting, leaping, and stretching.

💬 Did you already know these, or did one surprise you?

🚨 Rat Bait Poisoning in Dogs 🚨

This is Alfie, who recently came in after possible rat bait ingestion. Thankfully, his owner was onto it straight away and brought him in for a check — quick action makes all the difference.

The scary part is that symptoms often don’t appear for 2–5 days after ingestion, and by then it can be life-threatening.

Signs to watch for include:

▪️Weakness or lethargy

▪️Coughing or difficulty breathing

▪️Pale gums

▪️Bruising or unexplained bleeding

▪️Blood in urine or stool

▪️Collapse

⚠️ If you suspect your dog has eaten rat bait, don’t wait for symptoms — seek veterinary help immediately. Early treatment saves lives.

🐾 Please keep all rat bait safely out of reach of curious pets.

✨ Dax’s Story ✨

This gorgeous 3-year-old German Shepherd has been through an incredible journey. Just two weeks ago, Dax underwent massive exploratory surgery for an obstruction that led to peritonitis. The surgery was performed late one night by our vet Anna, with the support of vet Tania and nurse Jo.

Thanks to Dax’s amazing owners, who went above and beyond for him, and the dedicated care from our team, Dax has made a remarkable recovery. 💙

Today, he came in for his final recheck and stitch removal — looking bright, happy, and full of life! ✨ Here he is posing with our nurses Jo and Georgie — the whole team was excited to pop in for a little hello, some treats, and a cuddle. 🐾

A big shoutout to our vet Anna and the entire team who loved nursing Dax back to health. We’re so thrilled to see this sweet boy doing so well. 🐶💪

🐾 Patient of the Week: Sacha 🐾

This beautiful 18-year-old girl gave her family (and us!) quite a scare over the weekend when she came in with respiratory distress. 💙 After being stabilised in hospital, she recovered well enough to be discharged back to her loving owners.

A few days later, Sacha came in for a check-in with our vet Tania — and we were absolutely delighted to see her looking brighter, comfortable, and doing so well. ✨

At 18, she’s such a sweet little fighter, and we’re so happy she’s back enjoying life with her family. 💕
