I love this wee man! He's such a cruise! This was last month, but Blue Mist Magic Phoenix is now 7 months. A brick, and a real cool dude. He's a keeper! Will take more pics today. He's grown and filled out heaps.
He's a cross of two fantastic Dexter lines which we've been trying to achieve.
Happy. :)

Halter breaking our youngstock.. Two or seven months, one is 5 1/2 months, and one is only about a month and a half. They don’t have any problem now with having to put on, being tied up, and two of them had were led out to grass today. Together. One, the young bull that I’m keeping, and his seven month old sister. I LOL wish I could’ve gotten footage of them, but it was a bit of a challenge. They were pretty good overall.

Are you interested in improving your line of Dexters (or improving the meat quality of your dairy heifers while calving out a smaller calf for your first time calvers...) with the very top UK Dexter bloodlines, free of PHA, BD1 and BD2, plus carrying the Red Factor? Here's your chance!
We will be collecting semen from Blue Mist Moonlight Phoenix (DCSNZ PB HB # 8295), a young bull by Whitestone Phoenix ( #2 Dexter bull in the UK, now deceased) out of Blue Mist Rahona's Starlight. Bull 1 yr 11 mos (DOB 2022 08 14).
The temperament of all of the Whitestone Phoenix progeny we've bred is fantastic. They are able to be haltered and tied, and when we walk around their paddock, they can all be scratched and (most of them) hand-fed, etc. PM to visit the farm and see these awesome, versatile cattle.
Blue Mist Moonlight Phoenix is...................... PHA normal (i.e. no Dexter PHA mutation).......................BD1 normal (i.e. no Dexter BD1 mutation).......................BD2 normal (i.e. no Dexter BD2 mutation).......................Red factor E/e - black, carrier of recessive red
2023 DCSNZ VIRTUAL SHOW RESULTS of the yearling "Moonlight", his dam and his granddam:
Class 5: Bull calf born 1 June 2022 or after
First place: Blue Mist Moonlight Phoenix – Elizabeth Thompson and Matthew Mole/1229 – Well grown and muscled for his age. Shows masculinity
Class 4a: Senior cow 3 years and over, without calf at foot
First place: Blue Mist Rahona’s Starlight – nice topline, lots of length and capacity (the dam of "Moonlight")
Class 4b: Senior cow 3 years and over with calf at foot
First Place. Puketiro Rahona – older cow showing good longevity with great length and topline and a tidy udder. Done calf well. (the granddam of "Moonlight")
*****
Planning to collect semen soon, wondered how much interest there was, so I can determine the number of straws to order. Please PM to discuss.
*****
Here are pics of Moonlight now, his dam, sire, and him at 1 yo.
*****
We will also be collecting from Lindisfarne Renegade, a red polled Dexter of the Lynmarc Magic Nevin line, in another post soon! A gorgeous bull with a magnificent temperament. Great with the whole herd, including calves.

PPID, or Pituitary Pars Intermedia Dysfunction, is a common endocrine disorder in older horses. Early signs include decreased athletic performance, loss of topline, cresty neck, unexplained tendon injuries, fall laminitis, and increased drinking and urination. Regular veterinary check-ups, proper management, and balanced nutrition are crucial.

Odin on the Farm will be in both Early Reader and Read Aloud formats... in UK English and American English (Yes, that is a thing...)
Odin in the Farmhouse will be ditto.... That makes EIGHT. lol

That's more fun than all the other stuff I need to do.

Hoping I might be able to climb out from under my rock today.
If I can make the table of contents work in affinity publisher, I will be finished formatting this book today.
If anyone has ever winded about how much they have to pay a form for a textbook,…
Pay them anything they ask. 😉
At least I know how to use the program now!
So if anyone’s looking for a format for a textbook, just let me know! LOL I have found a new career. LOL
Thank you Matt Mole for holding the fort.

Hello all,
barring veterinary emergencies tomorrow, those of you who are on my list to be my advance Reader! copy Team, your book will be uploaded and you will be emailed of how to get your book tomorrow
YYYYAAAAAAAYYYYYYY!
I did it! What the help of a lot of people, a lot a lot of people, and you all know who you are, thank you so much.
Modern equine dentistry for Horse owners is on its way.
I’m about to collapse for half an hour before I fall into bed.
I just need to finish the back matter and then it’s off.
I’m so so glad I’m a Self Published Author already. This would’ve been really really hard.
And then I get to format the paperback and the hardcover and get them all loaded up!
Woo hoo !
I think I only have half of my brains left, the rest have been spilled out onto all these pages.
Sleep well, I’m going to!

Some of our lovely purebred, registered Dexters doing what Dexters were apparently bred to do! Garden! I found an amazing bit of printed material in a book that I have From around 1890 to 1910 on Dexters. It appears that they weren’t out running free, they tended to be staked out in orchards and such. They gave more creamy milk that way. This book is saying that they are a variety of the Kerry breed. 🙂 haven’t they done it awesome job on the flax? It was far far too overgrown!(only Book I have ever paid $200 for other than a veterinary school textbook… it is one of the most beautiful books I’ve ever seen.)

Well, finally crawling (on one arm) out of my publishing hole…. orthopaedic surgeon appointment this week about that rotator cuff injury…
Four days of somewhere between panic, despondency, wondering who the hell I ever thought I was to be able to possibly format a paperback with 1 million pictures that would still look professional…
Elliot said to “use assets”. ( in Affinity Publisher)… which I had read a few times, but I had no idea what they were nor any idea how to make them work… Well thank you Elliot, I learned. And then I passed one of the versions on to Stuie today… he told me it made his head hurt. Matt didn’t want me to deviate from the straight PDF out of Vellum… But it wouldn’t work. It used a page width for every image… and there are a lot of images. The book will already be huge, it would make it unprintable. LOL
Well Stuart, It made my head hurt too.
But finally… it’s working.
It will take me awhile, but Modern Equine Dentistry for Horse Owners will have beautiful paperback and hardback versions. I’m toying with the idea of doing an ultra fancy version as well. All the bells and whistles. Right now, I just want to get the last of the edits, and format it beautifully for the paperback.
Thank you so much to all of you put your two cents in, OR…
And many beautiful images.
Will post more pictures tomorrow, but I really do need some sleep.
A big thank you to Odin, who helped me do some relaxing tonight… (and a big thank you to Matt who set it all up on the big screen… I know where the holes in my personality are and I don’t want to even know how to turn the thing on. )We watched The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse. If you want to see a very beautiful wee film which your children will enjoy as well, watch it. There is a book, too.

Righto, now that the cover is out there, what do you guys think. should I leave it as Elizabeth Thompson or should I put EA Thompson for those people who would rather think that it could possibly be a male author?
🙂
I have toyed with doing both.

The more of you who are familiar with what to do in these situations, the better will be the situation for all horses! (and people, who can get squashed too often!) The NZVA and NZVNA associations look forward to hosting their members, alongside exhibitors, sponsors, speakers and professional peers from around New Zealand.
