Whangarei Cat Rescue Whangarei Cat Rescue is a community charity run by volunteers on donated time, funds and food.

We do not have a shelter location but foster in our volunteers homes so our kitties come used to a home environment. Our Adoption Fee is $200

All of our kittens have been:
*Desexed
*Vaccinated
*Microchipped & registered on NZCAR
*De-flead & wormed

We also offer discounts for pairs, teenagers and adults.

It's been scorching this week, right?

Here is our reminder to ensure your cats and kittens have plenty of fresh water and somewhere shady to rest, in this weather it is really easy for dehydration to set in, and like us your cats and kittens can suffer in the heat.

This week saw quite a few leave our care to loving homes - Salem, Lexi, Pinky, Max, Biggy, Charm, Naz, Emily, Denji, Rengoky, Zoro and Charm all said goodby to their foster families and moved into the big new world of furever 🥰

Packing their little kitten suitcases and organising their leaving parties are Bluey, Perky, Coal and Khalessi who have secured homes to go to.

On the flipside, we have very few coming in this week as we are full to busting, is Pocket. He is pretty cute, he's been hanging out with the lovely team at Mog and Dog Desexing Clinic Whangarei

Looking for Mr Confident? Meet Munch, he is such a character!

Munch loves to pounce on anything that moves, and has absolutely no fear of anything including his foster sister 🤣

He is very playful, loves to be with his hooman all the time and is partial to a good tickle. We will let you in on a little secret ...... he still likes to suck on his blankie 🥹

Munch is good with other cats and dogs, and whilst he doesn't have children in his current foster home, we are pretty confident he wouldn't mind kids either.

This is Pinky, the gentle little lady 🥹

She is the smallest of her litter but by no means the least - what she lacks in size she makes up for in soul.

She has a certain way about her that is confident, playful, caring and kind that makes her an absolute sweetheart to have around.

She will happily have a snuggle with you or occupy herself if left alone and loves to nap in her cat tower.

ADVERTISING ON BEHALF OF OWNER FOR REHOMING

Ebony is a 7&1/2 year old female and is desexed and microchipped.
Would ideally suit a single person or couple as can be a bit shy around lots of people.
Loves fussing around you and curling up on your lap, or besides you on the lounge or bed. Is not particularly fond of being picked up and held however. Favourite game is to play with small ball of screwed up paper.
She is currently living with a dog, so is used to them.
We live on property so is used to lots of space and is mainly an outdoor cat.

He is a wonderful friend to his littermates and is great source of entertainment as he is always up to some sort of mischief.

Just when you think things are slowing down ...... we have 2 fundraising events AND an upcoming adoption event to plan for March, so watch this space for details.

We have noticed lots people talking about an increase in flea activity, cat flu symptoms of gunky eyes and sneezing and the occasional case of lice. This is our reminder to make sure you keep up to date with vaccinations - prevention is always better than cure when it comes to creepy crawlies!

And if that was enough to keep us busy, we also went and got all snazzy and have our forms online which has been a bit of a learning curve.

Now onto the good stuff - this week saw Ariel off to his new forever home, and that is such a cool story of how sometimes life goes full circle.

Denji, Rengoku, Zoro and Salem were meant to have been in their new homes but decided to get conjunctivitis instead, so have been delayed a week so they can be in tip top shape for their new homes.

Naz, Charm, Emily and Lexi all have forever homes in the pipeline, so will be busy packing their imaginary kitten suitcase and saying farewell to their littermates.

No week would be complete without more lovelies coming into our care - we were expecting 3 and instead took in 9, so you will meet Mars, Venus and the rest of their mates over the coming weeks.

And still looking for homes and available for adoption now are Jag, Huey, Louise, Mindy, Tex, Luke and Lani.

Do you want someone to gaze into your eyes? Yuri is the lady for you!

She is a real cuddler, not at all afraid to show you her true feelings by settling in and making herself comfortable. She makes the most hilarious noises when she eats, like she is guarding her food even when noone else is around, but when there is she is more than happy to share.

She is playful, gets on well with her foster siblings like a big sister, is not at all bothered by the dog or the kids making her really adaptable to her surroundings.

Meet Charm, the coolest black cat in the street.

Just like his sister he is playful and friendly, and whilst he might be the smallest of the litter, he makes up for this with massive personality. He likes exploring and is happy to be in your arms, on your lap or left to entertain himself.

What's been going on this week?

Well, it's been a bit quieter this week, which is a blessing in disguise for our foster families who have been working their tails off with their kittens, feeding, transporting, socialising, photo shoots, meet and greets and of the occasional farewell.

We bade a fond farewell to Mork, Dewey and Ellie, all of whom have found loving homes that will spoil them accordingly.

Getting ready to depart to their new homes later this week are Denji, Rengoku and Zoro who are fortunate enough to be staying together as a trio, and their brother Salem as well.

And no week is complete unless we say hello to a couple of new faces, the likes of Emily, Loulou, Booboo, Orewa and Devonport

Introducing Naz 😍

This stunning young lady has the cutest personality and the biggest purr we have seen this year - we are pretty sure even the neighbours can hear her!
She is very friendly, happy to play with her brother or by herself, and she is also happy just to lie about and be a kitten.

So I didn't go on an Easter holiday BUT Sweetie our blind cat did?! 😅 Good on her! Sweetie's fosters had booked a getaway and lucky for Sweetie, she went with them 🤭 She's up for adoption to someone who can keep her indoors/catio type access/harness adventures. Don't be fooled, she may have no eyes but she climbs, plays, chases, and runs about like every other kitty!

Good morning Mouse 🐁 Mouse is a sweet silver tabby girl looking for someone to adopt her. She's very sweet to her chosen person and would do wonderfully in a house with older kids, adults, older couples etc. She would definitely be an awesome winter heater 😅

Our Journey.

Whangarei Cat Rescue is a community run shelter, we are a small team of volunteers who spend our days fixing up the cats and kittens forgotten about and left to struggle on the streets.

We currently foster our kittens out into homes all around Whangarei, as families provide the best kind of love and care these babies need before they are adoption ready. We take in kittens from roadside gutters, rubbish bags, bushes, beaches and most of all, free to any homes posts we see on Facebook. In our efforts we hope to minimise the number of felines struggling to survive every single day across not only Whangarei, but Northland itself as we expand.

We have rescued, rehabiliated and rehomed hundreds of kittens. We have also lost some too. We actively promote running a no kill shelter which means 99% of kittens that come into our care will not be put to sleep, we fight tooth and nail to help every kitten survive and thrive. Unfortunately we don’t always get kittens early enough to save them and some die in our arms, leaving us heartbroken and feeling a failure. BUT we always remember the other five hundred plus we can and do save each year, are worth the pain of helping animals because we can.

In 2020, with the help of a local lawyer we have become a registered charity so we can expand our efforts further. We are looking to provide desexing for low income community owned cats so that we hopefully see less kittens needing our help in the following seasons. We are also looking to apply for grants and for the possibility of opening our own official shelter or pop-up adoption ‘shop’.
