Beautiful female cat, Cocoa. Aprox 14-16 months old needing a quiet home.
Her sister Molly went missing back in June and she’s been sad ever since, and afraid of our neighbours male cats.
She would love a home where she’s the only cat, and mainly be indoors to avoid frights from neighbours, and ideally no children. She’s a sensitive and loving cat who just wants a peaceful home.
Kept up with flea and worm treatments regularly also.

We held our adoption event yesterday and wow was it busy!
Thanks to everyone who came down for kitten cuddles, face painting, lucky dips and to offer a koha, it was lovely to see you all! Special mention to the team at Animates Whangarei for hosting us again.
Almost all of our lovely kittens found forever homes either on the day or for when they are grown enough to leave home which is fabulous, and testament to the hard work our foster families put in to make sure that our kittens are loved, healthy, well-adjusted and ready for their new homes.
And while we were working hard making sure that everyone was safe and sound, Patrick stole the show by not only securing himself and his foster mate a new forever home in record time, he also go caught sleeping on the job.

We were very honored to receive this amazing donation in honour of the 2nd anniversary of the passing of one of our amazing adopters Ian King who gave Heihei a forever home. Heihei continues to live and love the King Whanau and we are so grateful for this amazing gesture. It is going to make a huge difference to our rescue this summer.

Bella is such a little sweetie!
The only girl in a litter of 6, she has a heart of gold 💛 Not only does she keep up with her brothers, she also manages to keep them in line and still be a lady.
Bella is just as beautiful in nature as she is in looks and is more than happy to curl up for a not so quick nap if you happen to be putting your feet up.

This is Riki, he has nailed the Christmas photo shoot, right??!!
Riki and his band of merry brothers (Stephen and Blaize) love nothing more than a bit of rough and tumble, and is amiable enough to pose before the camera, snuggle his humans or chill out on his own.
Handsome, regal, and chill are the first three words that come to mind about Bondo, so much so that he could star in his own action movie!
He is always up to shenanigans and is really good at them, but when play time is over, he loves to snuggle up with his humans and purr himself to sleep.

Ali is a one eyed kitten we've brought up from a vet in Auckland to save, and Baby Spice is a wild born kitten from Waipu area that we have tamed up 🐅
Whangarei Cat Rescue is a community run shelter, we are a small team of volunteers who spend our days fixing up the cats and kittens forgotten about and left to struggle on the streets.
We currently foster our kittens out into homes all around Whangarei, as families provide the best kind of love and care these babies need before they are adoption ready. We take in kittens from roadside gutters, rubbish bags, bushes, beaches and most of all, free to any homes posts we see on Facebook. In our efforts we hope to minimise the number of felines struggling to survive every single day across not only Whangarei, but Northland itself as we expand.
We have rescued, rehabiliated and rehomed hundreds of kittens. We have also lost some too. We actively promote running a no kill shelter which means 99% of kittens that come into our care will not be put to sleep, we fight tooth and nail to help every kitten survive and thrive. Unfortunately we don’t always get kittens early enough to save them and some die in our arms, leaving us heartbroken and feeling a failure. BUT we always remember the other five hundred plus we can and do save each year, are worth the pain of helping animals because we can.
In 2020, with the help of a local lawyer we have become a registered charity so we can expand our efforts further. We are looking to provide desexing for low income community owned cats so that we hopefully see less kittens needing our help in the following seasons. We are also looking to apply for grants and for the possibility of opening our own official shelter or pop-up adoption ‘shop’.
