We know its not Black Friday, but it is a black kitten looking for a home!
This is Luke, and we think he's magic - literally!! His skills at playing hide and seek are on a whole other level. He pops into a corner, closes his eyes and then P**F just disappears ...... makes his sister go hunting π§π€π
He absolutely loves to play, and his favourite toys are ping pong balls and soft toys, and occasionally his sister Lexi. He is an independent wee chap, preferring to be in your area rather than in your lap and he does own space, so would suit a home without the busy hustle where he can adventure with you if he chooses.
If you think you have just the right home for Luke, email us at [email protected]

Introducing Lexi, the pretty little lady with an old soul π»
Lexi has the kind the of eyes that seem they have lived and seen many things. She is very protective of her brother Luke, and when she gets the zoomies.... she is the parkour queen! She has managed to scale a shelf because she thought she might be hungry, and absolutely no fly is safe while she is on guard.
She is more than willing to have a cuddle, and when she has had her fill, she will quietly move off and curl up for a proper nap. Lexi is ready for a home with a quiet routine where she can settle in and blossom into a total princess.
If you think that Lexi would suit your home, email us at [email protected]

Cocoa is still seeking a new home.
Beautiful female cat, Cocoa. Aprox 14-16 months old needing a quiet home.
Her sister Molly went missing back in June and sheβs been sad ever since, and afraid of our neighbours male cats.
She would love a home where sheβs the only cat, and mainly be indoors to avoid frights from neighbours, and ideally no children. Sheβs a sensitive and loving cat who just wants a peaceful home.
Kept up with flea and worm treatments regularly also.
Please contact Lauren on 0211861942

It's time for you to meet the Chilli and Cayenne, affectionately known by their foster mum as the Spice Boys πΆπΆπΆ
They are really affectionate with each other, absolutely love being in each other's company, and also like to be independent of their human meaning that cuddles are given on their terms and in small doses.
Chilli loves to sunbathe, likes to climb is pretty good at getting up to mischief when it comes to getting in, behind, under and over furniture.
Cayenne LOVES playing with his brother and with toys, likes to laze beside the window and did we mention loves food?
These gents are seeking an experienced home where they can remain together - one that is on the quieter side and has the patience to help them settle into a new environment.
They are available for adoption now, so if they would look amazing sunbathing at your house, please email us at [email protected]

Gosh it has been a busy week with kittens coming and going, it feels a bit like an airport βοΈ
Patrick, Prancer, Dasher, V***n and Marble all headed off to their forever homes, lucky kitties!
Oscar, Emmy, Mila, Tex, Cleo, Gabriella and Chia have packed their suitcases and are waiting in the departure lounge for their turn.
On the arrivals side we had Ariel, Fred, Ducky, Iggy, Jag, Huey, Dewey, Louise, George and Karev come into our care, and four of them have already have homes in the pipeline.
And then there is these three, who are clearly up to no good π€£

Do you remember the story of Abby and Lucky? They were the two little kittens that ended up in our care with puffy and gunky eyes (cat flu symptoms) thanks to the fast actions of some wonderful community members.
They have been under the watchful eye of our amazing Kitten Health Manager, and they have come ahead in leaps and bounds. While Lucky still has a wee ways to go, Abby is just about back to her best.
It is really important to act quickly if your kitten, or one you have found, is sick, injured or showing signs of ill-health, as cat flu can spread very quickly in overcrowded environments.
There are some basic actions you can take to help with your feline's health that includes:
- get your cat desexed and microchipped
- keeping up to date with vaccinations
- if they are showing signs of being unwell, contact your vet for advice
If you find a kitten that is sick, unwell or in a harmful environment, you can contact us, the SPCA if it's an emergency or the Whangarei District Council's cat officer.

Do you know what is better than one gorgeous kitten? Two kittens ππββ¬
Introducing the dynamic duo of Fred and Ducky, a brother and sister bonded pair.
Fred is a happy boy who loves to chase things and sounds like a tractor when he purrs. He loves cuddles and food, and of course his sister!
Ducky's the boss, she loves feet, ankles, will climb just about anything, and if there is an open window you can guarantee she will find it! Her attitude matches her ability to climb but when it's time to nap you can bet your bottom dollar these two are nearby.
As they are bonded, they will only be adopted together, so if you think you have just the right home for this pretty pair, please email us at [email protected]

Our amazing friends treat is back for 2025. Can't wait to see what they have in store for us today.
Reason 3 that black cats are amazing ... they are good for the heart!
From the unintended adrenaline kick when a cat materialises out of thin air, the sharp increase when you realise there is a pair of eyes watching you from close by, or the warm fuzzies when they choose to snuggle up next to you, there is no denying the impact of a cat that has the best camouflage π₯°πββ¬
In a litter of gingers, the only way to stand out is to be a black kitten! This is Salem, such a loving and sweet kitten, and is looking for a forever home to be available in about 4 weeks. Always up for a snuggle and loves a good game with the boys Salem will be ready to steal a place in YOUR heart.
Pop us through an email to [email protected] for all adoption queries

Reason 1: Black cats are amazing at making you feel better about your photography. Unless you are a professional photographer, it is nigh on impossible to take a picture that is better than a black blob with eyes, but at least now you have an excuse!
Reason 2: Black cats will remind you of your childhood and are often amazing at playing hide and seek. They are also great players of red light green light, statues and the floor is lava.
Meet Onyx and her brother Cayenne. Sporting the lastest of this season's matching black coats and similar in personality, when it comes to games of hidey hides these two are aces! They are also both very reserved when it comes to people, although they have both been raised in loving homes with other cats so they will suit a family with enough patience to help them settle in and with a steady routine.
What exactly does one call a whole bunch of black kittens?
A cloak? A hoard? A veil? A camouflage?
Whatever it is, we currently have 10. Yes, 10 black kittens in our care. We will introduce them to you over the next week, along with some really wonderful reasons why we think black cats are just the best.
Here is a couple of pictures in case you get bored and want to play spot the difference πββ¬πββ¬πββ¬πββ¬πββ¬πββ¬πββ¬πββ¬πββ¬
Zoro thought finding a new home yesterday was a bit exhausting, and decided a pair of warm hands was just the right place for a quick nap π€£π€£π΄π΄π΄π΄π΄
To be fair, we might still be a bit tired too, our adoption event was far busier than expected.
It was fabulous to meet some of you in person, although we know we cannot possibly have gotten to speak to you all. Not only did all the kittens who were ready for adoption find their forever homes, most of those who will be ready in the next 3-4 weeks have now got homes lined up too!
For those of you who missed out on being able to adopt a kitten yesterday but left us with your wish list, we will be in touch soon if we have not been already.
Thank you all for your support, we appreciate you.

πΆπΆ I got chills, they're multiplying .....ππΊSorry if that song gets stuck in your head, its a goodie!
Our dynamic duo that arrived last week has turned into a terrific trio.
Luke and Lexi were reunited earlier this week with sister Lani, and they have been whisked off for their desexing operations today, and you know what that means .... they are going to be looking for forever homes soon!!
Keep a watch out for their details, or if you just can't wait pop us through an email to [email protected]

If youβd like to meet young Pablo, drop us an email at [email protected]!
Escobar might sound like a questionable character, but this wee guy is actually a real cutie! π». Heβs developed a strong liking for a piece of fabric and carryβs this around with him πΉ.

So I didn't go on an Easter holiday BUT Sweetie our blind cat did?! π
Good on her!
Sweetie's fosters had booked a getaway and lucky for Sweetie, she went with them π€
She's up for adoption to someone who can keep her indoors/catio type access/harness adventures. Don't be fooled, she may have no eyes but she climbs, plays, chases, and runs about like every other kitty!
Good morning Mouse π
Mouse is a sweet silver tabby girl looking for someone to adopt her.
She's very sweet to her chosen person and would do wonderfully in a house with older kids, adults, older couples etc. She would definitely be an awesome winter heater π
Match made in heaven π
Ali and Baby Spice aren't related, we have paired them together as we know that kittens who grow up alone turn into buttholes π
They are coming up for adoption shortly and are looking for a home with older kids/adults.
Ali is a one eyed kitten we've brought up from a vet in Auckland to save, and Baby Spice is a wild born kitten from Waipu area that we have tamed up π
Whangarei Cat Rescue is a community run shelter, we are a small team of volunteers who spend our days fixing up the cats and kittens forgotten about and left to struggle on the streets.
We currently foster our kittens out into homes all around Whangarei, as families provide the best kind of love and care these babies need before they are adoption ready. We take in kittens from roadside gutters, rubbish bags, bushes, beaches and most of all, free to any homes posts we see on Facebook. In our efforts we hope to minimise the number of felines struggling to survive every single day across not only Whangarei, but Northland itself as we expand.
We have rescued, rehabiliated and rehomed hundreds of kittens. We have also lost some too. We actively promote running a no kill shelter which means 99% of kittens that come into our care will not be put to sleep, we fight tooth and nail to help every kitten survive and thrive. Unfortunately we donβt always get kittens early enough to save them and some die in our arms, leaving us heartbroken and feeling a failure. BUT we always remember the other five hundred plus we can and do save each year, are worth the pain of helping animals because we can.
In 2020, with the help of a local lawyer we have become a registered charity so we can expand our efforts further. We are looking to provide desexing for low income community owned cats so that we hopefully see less kittens needing our help in the following seasons. We are also looking to apply for grants and for the possibility of opening our own official shelter or pop-up adoption βshopβ.
Thank you for following our journey as a group of very tired people with a crazy βhobbyβ to rescue cats and kittens, thank you for your support!
π± If you would like to donate Whiskers Kitten biscuits or Pet Milk to our shelter, we have five drop off locations for donated items at
Eko Hub, The Piggery Bookshop, Kamo Pet and Aquatic Centre, Waipu Natural Healh and Animal Natural Health in Kaiwaka.
