🐶 ENRICHMENT 🐶
We are all about our dogs using their senses and doing different activities at daycare!
We’ve been experimenting with how we can continue to add value to our dogs experience but also so owners know they are getting value for money when they choose to send their dogs to us for daycare 🥰
We have been creating random groups and using our front space to create enrichment activities (this is different to our enrichment programme!) to give the dogs something fun and different to do. (We highly recommend joining our enrichment programme which can be added on to daycare casually or regularly!)
Tara’s session yesterday was all about using what we have around us, boxes, blankets, lawn etc to create a Sniffari and have the dogs engage their brains. Here’s a message from Tara:
“Did you know 20 minutes of sniffing for a dog is the equivalent of a 1 hour walk? Sniffing not only enriches our dogs but also releases endorphins to help reduce stress and calm our dogs too. We are currently trialing small groups to do some sniffing enrichment in the afternoons to help enrich their day! Activities include a surprise sniffari where they use their nose to find treats hidden around the room as well as using boxes to rip up cardboard boxes to let them use their instinctual prey drive! Don’t worry we monitor closely and take cardboard away before it is ingested!”

Did you know adults dogs should sleep between 12-14 hours a day and puppies should be between 18-20 hours a day!
It's an interesting topic as we see both sides of the coin, those that assume dogs will be playing every minutes they are in daycare and those that feel like their dogs snooze a lot. In fact, offering rest and sleep whilst they are here with us is very important to maintaining a healthy dog and then they get the fun and socialisation in between if and when they choose to 🙂
We don't force them either which way (unless they need some help self regulating in which case, we have seperate areas for them to get some rest without distraction).
Here's a cute little snippet of Hiwa trying her hardest to fight sleep but don't worry, she had a good nap 🥰

Come get ready with Quinn & I while I prep her for my Terrier Exam! I talk a bit about the process of prepping dogs, the smith&burton products I like to use and why I use them 🖤
Did you know that Groomers have an opportunity with the National Groomers Association of New Zealand to up skill and complete a Masters Certificate? As it stands, I am the only Northland Groomer to complete exams, currently holding certificates for Proficiency, Terrier and Gundog! It takes approximately 5 years to complete (if you sit one exam each year) and features certificates for Proficiency, Terrier, Gundogs, Poodles and the final exam is Bichon Frise.
I love having the opportunity to up skill, learn from and work under amazing Groomers who are so generous in sharing their knowledge. One of the best communities I have ever been apart of!
