Our Irish mare Goldsmith Country Ma Belle and Trevalda Mountain Greystone won the hearts of the crowd at the Christchurch A&P show in the rare breeds section. Thank you to past committee members Lesley, Lyn and Sonya who braved the weather over the 3 days and helped share our horses to bring happiness to the people. They have both been dropped off at Wai Eyre to go to the stallions.

A huge thank you to our awesome committee for the nomination and support.

As Jeremy and Jess walked among their Gisborne-bred mares with Irish foals at foot, they had time to reflect on how far they’ve come.

Back in 2006, Jeremy began his New Zealand farming journey by doing casual work docking lambs on large stations out the back of Gisborne. He quickly became fascinated by the station horses — and he was lucky enough to witness the tail end of some long-standing breeding programs. These were the days when a station-bred horse carried a name that truly meant something unique.

One particular day, Jeremy headed out to the back dip yards at Huiarua Station. Undercover beside the old woolshed stood a matching pair of solid, dapple-grey geldings by a stallion called The Texan. After riding them and hearing the history of their line, Jeremy knew then that his life’s purpose was to create a line of horses of his own.

Jeremy had a great mentor, Nick Deighton. Nick helped Jeremy over many years to get the foundation genetics correct from the start. Now, with a herd of mostly related mares and two quality Irish Draught stallions, Tir na nOg Irish Draughts NZ is well on its way to achieving that vision.

We had a productive morning scanning mares with Glenn. Its always a bonus when multiple mares are ready on the same day. Shimmer’s filly provided some entertainment, doing a few laps of the yard calling out while her mum was in the crush. She just couldn't work it out where Shimmer had gone.

Sleepless nights are worth it!
When Ratamill Willow came up for sale, the last thing we needed was another horse. However, I had long admired the Ratamill bloodline, so she came to live at Tir na nÓg. Willow has powerful conformation and a wonderfully calm nature to match, so we decided to cross her with Silver — and this striking c**t foal is the result.
