NEPHRECTOMY IN 3 YEAR-OLD FEMALE SHIH TZU

Strength, is a 3 year old, female, shih tzu that was brought to our clinic last June 7,2024. She has no appetite, lethargic, vomiting and with severe right abdominal pain upon palpation.

Her blood works results showed infection and increase in globulin and ALP level. Her urinalysis showed presence of struvites, blood and increase pH.

Strength was subjected to exploratory laparatomy. Her right kidney was found to be swollen with black discoloration, with pus leakage from renal pelvis spreading to right o***y. The right o***y was enlarged and discolored with pus. Due to the state of her right kidney, we decided to remove it (nephrectomy) along with her ovaries and uterus (ovariohysterectomy). Left kidney had normal physical/anatomical presentation upon checking.

After surgery, removed kidney was incised and urinary stones were found on renal pelvis. Necrosis is evident all over the organ.
After the surgery, Strength show great improvement. She is not in pain anymore and started to eat again on the next day and was discharged after 3 days.

However, she suffered from severe gastroenteritis and tapeworm infection 2 weeks after surgery. Eventually, she recovered and overcame another ordeal.Strength had also dealt with blood parasitism on November 2024 and also survived.

After 7 mos, she is still living great with her 1 kidney. Blood works are normal with updated anti-parasitic prevention. She is still jolly and friendly everytime she visits us in the clinic. 😊

She surely inspire us , beyond all odds she keeps living up with her name "STRENGTH". 💪

EYE ENUCLEATION IN DOGS

Pogi, a male shih tzu was brought to our clinic with a primary concern of pr*****ed right eyeball after a dog fight. Most of his eye connective tissues are teared with severe lost of blood.
Bella, a female american bully was brought due to severe chronic eye inflammation. Her left eye had a chronic infection with pus and starting necrosis.

Sadly, both dogs have unsavable eye and was subjected to eye enucleation (surgical removal of eye) to arrest the further development of infection from decaying eye. Their eyelids are permantly closed.

After the surgery, both dogs recovered well and able to resume their normal daily activities.

TRANSMISSIBLE VENEREAL TUMOR (TVT) IN FEMALE DOGS

Bebe and Sophie are intact female aspin dogs (different owners) that were brought to our clinic with a primary concern of growing mass in v***a. This mass is increasing in size and also bleeds.

Upon physical examination, a cauliflower-like mass was observed in their v***a which is a distinct characteristic of TVT. Despite having this lesion, both dogs are still active and with good appetite.

Bebe and Sophie both undergone series of chemotherapy treatment and taken antiiflammatory drug and supplements. After treatment, the growth is gone and they are fully healed and free from pain.

TVT is a disease that is only transmissible to dog and is commonly acquired during mating and can affect both s*x (male and female dog).
One way to prevent this disease is have your dog neutered.

A case of Demodectic and Sarcoptic Mange in a 3-year-old Shih-Tzu

Botchoi was brought for a skin check up due to severe pruritus, erythema, furunculosis, excorations and alopecia.

After microscopic examination, he was diagnosed with Sarcoptic mites which caused severe itching, allergic reactions and scabs & the other one was Demodectic mites which reside inside the hair follicles, it is associated in genetically predisposed or immunocompromised dogs. It can be localized or generalized both in juvenile and adult.

After 2 weeks of treatment, here is Botchoi’s before and after photos. 🩵💙

A**l Sac Rupture in 7 months old Shih Tzu

Amanda, a 7 month old female shih tzu was brought in our clinic with a primary concern regarding a wound on the butt. Her p**p was soft and she had poor appetite. Amanda was also lethargic and in pain.

Upon physical examination, she had a deep peria**l wound filled with maggots eating her flesh. Her wound is caused by ruptured a**l sac which is a consequence of soft stool for a long time.( A**l fluid is normally/regulary squeezed out together when defecating formed p**p).

We found out that she had a lot of hookworm, causing her to have diarrhea, followed by a**l sac impaction and rupture. Eventually, flies laid eggs on exposed wound. It only takes 24 hours for maggots to be hatched.

Amanda undergo secondary wound healing with the intensive wound cleaning, removing all maggots burrowed inside, and also undergo serial deworming to be free from intestinal parasite.

After 2 weeks of treatment, Amanda's butt is fully healed and her p**p is also formed. 😊

We encourage furparents to update your pets' deworming schedule atleast every 3 months to prevent multiple complications.
