There is a way to deal with the whole IG situation in the Philippines.
If you like the breed and you can afford it, buy one.
If you don't like it, just shut-up.
If you doubt it, leave it.

I can see two inner forces fueling-up the conflicts.
First is JEALOUSY.
Jealousy is wanting something you think is rightfully yours.
If you want the crown for being the most famous breeder...you might actually get jealous.
If you want the title for having the tallest chicken in the country...you'd probably get jealous.
If you want the recognition for being the most capable and reliable importer of chickens...you'd most likely get jealous.

Second is ENVY. The bigger evil of the two.
Envy is wanting what is NOT rightfully yours.
So if someone who doesn't have an IG, always post against IG, what could be the motive apart from envy?
If someone who can't afford an IG, always find fault in IG, that's what you call "sour-graping" and it is envy.
If you have that painful sensation inside you in knowing other breeders can sell their chickens at a high price while you can't, that's envy.

So, we might need self-evaluation here.
The issue is not whether IG in the Philippines meet the standard of Brazil.
The issue is not whether the breeders are scammers.
We are adults, and if we feel uncomfortable about something, we just leave it.
Who forces you to buy that which you think is substandard? NO ONE!
Who goaded you to buy from breeders you don't trust? NONE!
So why bother posting or commenting negative stuffs?

It must either be jealousy, or envy afflicting you.

Paghahanda sa pagdating ng inyong mga sisiw

Ngayong nakapili na tayo ng lahi ng alagaing manok at naghihintay ng pagdating ng mga sisiw nito.

Ano ang mga dapat nating gawin?

Mas makabubuting siguruhing kumpleto na ang mga gamit at bagay na kakailanganin natin sa pag aalaga ng mga ito. Siguraduhing gumagana ang mga ito bago dumating ang inyong mga sisiw.

May mga bagay at materyales tayong dapat ihanda at maisalugar, nasuri at hindi sira. Iisa isahin natin ang mga bagay na kakailanganin natin.

1. Brooder

Ang brooder ay isang lugar kung saan ang mga sisiw ay inilalagay upang painitan mula unang araw hanggang sa ika dalawamput isang araw. Ito ay ang katumbas ng pag limlim ng inahing manok. Sa bawat limampung sisiw (50) maari tayong gumawa ng 1 X 2 metro na brooder. Dapat ay may hanging dumadaloy sa ibabaw nito subalit may pantay pantay na init. Maaring gumamit ng 50 watts na bombilya na pangagalingan ng init. Habang lumalaki ang mga sisiw maari nang bawasan ang init sa loob ng brooder.

Mga palatandaan sa tamang init ng brooder:

Malalaman natin kung hindi sapat ang init sa brooder kapag ang mga sisiw ay maingay at nasa isang lupon o grupo at nakatapat sa ilaw. Kapag sobrang init naman ay nakalayo sa ilaw karaniwang nasa sulok at nag iingay. Kapag tama ang init sa loob ng brooder mapapansin ninyong sila ay hiwa hiwalay at masiglang kumakain at tumatakbo sa loob ng brooder.

2. Bedding o Sapin

Maaring lagyan ng ipa o dayami ang sahig ng brooder. Panatilihin itong malinis at tuyo. Lagyan ng isa hanggang dalawang pulgadang kapal ng bedding ang sahig. Palitan kapag ito ay basa na upang maiwasan ang pagtubo ng “amag o molds” na maaring magdulot ng sakit sa inyong mga sisiw. Maari itong palitan araw araw kung kinakailangan. Makakatulong din ang bedding upang maka balance ang inyong mga alagang sisiw sa mga unang araw nito.

3. Feeders and Waterers

Maari ko bang gamitin ang mga Pakainan at Painuman na gamit ko sa malalaking manok. Ang sagot ay hindi!

Ang mga ito ay dapat maliit na tama lamang sa maliliit na sisiw. Gumamit ng mababaw na painuman upang maiwasan ang pagkalunod ng inyong mga sisiw. Maari itong lagyan ng maliliit na bato o holen ( marbles ) upang maiwasan ang pagkalubog ng sisiw sa mga painuman. Maari din gumamit ng dalawang commercial drinkers small size.

Paalala: unahing bigyan ng tubig na may “PROBIOTICS” ang mga sisiw bago sila pakainin. Ito ang nakakatulong sa kanilang “panunaw o digestion” at nagbibigay ng paunang proteksyon sa mga impeksyon.

Sa Feeder o Pakainan maaring gumamit ng bilao sa mga unang araw ng mga sisiw. Kung mayroon sa paligid, maari ring gumamit ng apat na pirasong (4) biniyak na kawayan na may habang kalahating (1/2) metro bilang pakainan o feeder.

4. Feeds o Patuka

Feeds o patuka. Ang mga sisiw ay hindi pa makakakain ng pellets, ang kailangan nila feeds para sa sisiw. Makakabuting ihanda ito bago pa dumating ang mga sisiw. Maghanda ng chick booster para sa kanila. Maaring magbigay ng giniling na “brown rice” para sa unang pakain sa kanila ito ay makakatulong sa pag develop ng kanilang “panunaw o digestion”.

Kakailanganin nila ang pagkain na mataas ang protina para sa kanilang mabilis na paglaki. Gumamit ng chick booster na crumbles para hindi mahirapan ang mga sisiw sa pagkain nila.

Siguraduhing sariwa at bago ang inyong ibibigay na feeds o patuka upang maiwasan ang anumang sakit na maaring idulot ng lumang feeds. Ang lumang feeds ay maaring nagtataglay ng “amag o molds” na makakasama sa inyong mga alagang sisiw.

5. Heater o Ilaw

Ang pinakahuli at isa sa mga bagay na dapat ninyong suriin ng mabuti ay ang “heater o ilaw”.

Ang mga sisiw ay wala pang kakayahang magpanatili ng tamang init ng katawan sa mga unang araw nito. Mapapnsin natin na sila ay nag iipon ipon kapag hindi sapat ang init sa loob ng brooder.

Sa mga panahong ito ang ilaw ang magbibigay ng artipisyal na init na kailangan ng mga sisiw. Ang init na kailangan nila sa unang linggo ay 35 Degrees Celsius. Pagkatapos nito ay unti unting bawasan ng 5 Degrees Celsius kada lingo. Sa ika siyam ( 9 ) na lingo ito ay dapat nasa 18 degrees Celsius. Sa loob ng pito hanggang labindalawang ( 7-12 ) lingo kumpleto na ang tunay na balahibo nito at may kakayahan nang magpanatili ng kanilang init, maliban na lamang sa tag lamig.

Paalala: Ang heater o bombilya ay napakahusay na alternatibo para sa artipisyal na init para sa mga sisiw. Subalit ito ay maaring maging sanhi ng sakuna tulad ng sunog, gamitin ito ng may pag iingat.

Kung ang mga nakalista dito ay madali ninyong maisaayos bago pa dumating ang inyong mga sisiw ay mabuti. Subalit kung kayo ay hindi sanay mas makabubuting ihanda ang lahat ng mga ito isang araw bago pa dumating ang inyong mga sisiw.

Maligayang Pagdating!!!

Sa araw ng pagdating ng inyong mga sisiw, buksan na ang heater o ilaw ilang oras bago sila dumating. Suriin ang init sa sahig kung ito ay napapanatiling 35 Degrees Celsius na. mahahanap nila ito at doon sila gagalaw. Sa pag lipat ng mga sisiw galling sa kahon, siguraduhing ilubog sandal ang tuka ng sisiw sa tubig na may “PROBIOTICS”. Ito ay para turuan sila kung paano uminom at kung saan sila iinom. Sa feeds o patuka ilatag ito sa sahig, kaykayin o scratch ng inyong daliri ang patuka at magsisimula na silang mag kaykay o mag scratch sa feeds o patuka sa sarili nila.

Ilagay ang Painuman o Waterer ng bahagyang malapit sa ilaw ngunit hindi masyadong malapit. Ito ay upang mahikayat uminom ang inyong mga sisiw. Ang mga sisiw ay ayaw sa malamig na tubig.

Pagkatapos ng kanilang paglalakbay, sila ay kakain, iinom at matutulog

Silipin ng madalas sa loob ng ilang oras kung tama ang init sa loob ng brooder. Kapag sila ay nakakalat sa sulok ng brooder ibig sabihin nito ay masyadong mainit ang inyong ilaw. Kung sila naman ay magkakasama at dikit dikit maaring hindi sapat ang init ng inyong brooder..

Sila ay dapat nakakalat sa loob ng brooder, kumakain, tumatakbo at natutulog kapag sapat ang init ng inyong brooder. 😀

Napansin ninyo ba yung “PROBIOTICS”? Alam ba ninyo kung ano ang “PROBIOTICS” at ang magandang naidudulot nito sa inyong mga alagaing manok at sisiw. May laganap na nakakamatay na sakit sa Isang lugar kagaya ng new castle desease/peste o aratay na lubhang mapanganib sa mga manok at wala itong gamot sa ngayon.Nadadala ito ng sa pamamagitan ng tubig at hangin,pwede rin dala ng ibang mga hayop kagaya ng ibon at daga.
Kapag bakunado na ang iyong mga alagang manok maging sa pabo at ibang ibon at mga malulusog ang mga ito ay wala ka na dapat ipag alala dahil safe sila sa nasabing sakit. Ngayon,ang mga manok naman ng kapitbahay mo ay walang bakuna o Hindi bakunado ay tiyak matatamaan ng sakit na ito at mamamatay.

How to identify Good layers from Bad layers in your farm:

Quality egg production is the primary goal for keeping layers.
It is, therefore, important to monitor production of your flock, identifying poor layers that eat into your profits with minimal or simply no benefits.

During this process, you are likely to notice those birds that do not lay as much as others or those that don’t even lay at all.
Physical indicators to help you identify poor or good layers
Now, before starting to point fingers on the birds, ensure you are not the problem. Ask yourself if you are providing good quality feeds, enough light and clean water. Check also if the birds are stressed or probably there are abrupt changes in their routine.

Also, assess the age of the birds because as your flock gets older, their production drops, with some even stop laying altogether.
Well, there are several physical indicators to help you identify poor or good layers.

For a good layer, the combs and wattles should be full, large, waxy, bright red and warm. A poor layer has small, scaly, pale, and shrivelled comb and wattles. This is also a sign of possible illness.

A good layer should have flexible p***c bones, wide apart to allow three fingers to fit between them while those of a poor layer are tight, quite rigid and narrow, not allowing the fingers. This wide p***c bone space normally facilitates easy passage of eggs.
When you pull back the tail feathers of the bird and inspect the vent, it should be wide, oval, moist and warm for a good layer. The poor laying bird will have the vent dry, small/tight, round and cold.

The eyes of a good layer should be large, bright, prominent and sparkling. A poor layer often has small, sleepy/dull and sunken eyes.

Good layers have clean-cut, strong, refined heads while poor layers have coarse, meaty/thin, blocky, weak looking head.
A good layer has an abdomen that is deep and soft, easily pliable without body fat accumulation by probing fingers while a poor layer has a hard and shallow abdomen. This depth of the abdomen is measured between the breast bone and the p***c bones.

Poor layers have dark-pigmented or dull skins, earlobes and shanks, while good layers are generally bleached or bright, though sometimes it depends on when you check them.
The bleaching is due to the diverting of yellow colour from the body portions to be deposited into the egg yolks. The loss of colour/bleaching effect is easily seen in yellow-skinned chicken on diets with sources of the colouring agents. The effect is less pronounced in white-skinned breeds, thus, more difficult to detect.

By behaviour, a good layer is normally alert to her surroundings and is not lazy. The bird is active and exhibits normal chicken behaviour like scratching litter and running around with others.
Poor layers, on the other hand, look dull and are most of the times droopy.

Delaying culling
Moulting period (when birds lose feathers) requires better understanding of the feathers. It is, thus, advisable to delay culling when a significant portion of the flock is moulting, lest you remove some good laying birds.
During this time, most hens stop producing eggs until moulting is complete. Laying for some chicken may not be affected, but their moulting may be lengthened.

Moulting in good layers starts late and is quite rapid while in poor layers, it starts early and is slow, making the latter appear better groomed.

The grooming does not reflect good laying, in fact, in late moulters, the feathers are replaced at the same time they are lost, enabling them to return to their full production sooner.

Dirty and ragged feathers
The feathers of an active laying hen should be dirty and ragged looking. This is because they use much of their energy on producing eggs and are more prone to playing in the dirt or being followed by roosters. A hen that looks clean and perfect most of the time could be a poor layer.

Be careful when dealing with pullets (young hens), lest their size makes you rule them out as poor layers.
Some good laying hens mature late, therefore, allow the pullets to mature and show characteristics suggesting their laying potential. They may develop into good layers.
Egg lay per hen is best described in a flock. A flock of good layers would have a laying percentage of over 80 per cent, then starts dropping laying after molting to about 50 per cent. On average, in a week, a hen in this flock can give about five eggs.

A poor laying flock’s lay is below 60 per cent, after molting, they hardly go above 10 per cent.
In general, all the indicators will help you do away with the unproductive part of the flock, a practice known as culling.
Ideally, culling should be a continuous exercise throughout the entire production period until the whole flock is productive no more.

Benefits of cullings
While disease is not an important reason to cull the unproductive birds, farmers cull to allow more space for feeding and watering the productive lot. Culling enables you to realise an increased growth rate per bird and overall egg lay per hen ratio. It also ensures that resources are not wasted on unproductive flock.
These indicators may, however, vary between breeds and individual birds.

Therefore, before you finally cull, adopt the most obvious method of telling whether a hen is laying or not by separating suspected unproductive birds from the rest of the flock and monitoring their production for a few days under plenty of feed and water. This may sometimes pose stress to the separated birds, but should put the last nail on them before you are sure to cull.

Most chickens that are culled, commonly known as ex-layers, are sold as meat. The best approach is to put them into a separate housing in a free-range setting so that their retirement doesn’t cost you any more feeds.
Proper planning, however, requires that you know best how you will deal with the eventual decline in egg production of your flock.
