"Rabbit production is now in demand especially when the African Swine Fever (ASF) affected the supply of pork meat in our country. So, we decided to find alternative sources of meat. Rabbit is a good alternative to pork. In fact, we have partnership with the City of Baguio to promote rabbit raising in the community. Rabbit has byproducts such as the fur and tail that are being made to various handicrafts aside from its meat. Also, rabbit meat is healthier and has lesser cholesterol."

10 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD EAT RABBIT MEAT

Back in the 1940s and 1950s rabbit meat was as common for dinner as chicken is today. It is the meat that got many people and their children through the lean times of Depression. They lost their popularity after Big AGRA, who wanted to get maximum profits with the cheapest bottom line using the government endorse chemicals and handouts. Because of this rabbits didn’t make sense. So why even eat rabbit meat now? Below you will find a few reasons why you should consider adding rabbit meat to your diet. Raise some rabbits in your yards, or pastures. Become closer to your food supply know what you eat!

1. It is one of the best white meats available on the market today.

2. The meat has a high percentage of easily digestible protein.

3. It contains the least amount of fat among all the other available meets.

4. Rabbit meat contains less calorie value than other meats.

5. Rabbit meat is almost cholesterol free and therefore heart patient friendly.

6. The sodium content of rabbit meat is comparatively less than other meats.

7. The calcium and phosphorus contents of this meat or more than any other meats.

8. The ratio of meat to bone is high meaning there is more edible meat on the carcass than even a chicken.

9. Rabbit meat with the many health benefits does not have a strong flavor and is comparable to chicken but not identical.

RABBIT NUTRITION 🐰

According to the USDA, every 3 ounces of rabbit meat has the following nutritional value:
β€’Calories: 147
β€’Total Fat: 3 g 4%
β€’Saturated Fat: 0.9 g 4%
β€’Polyunsaturated Fat: 0.6 g
β€’Monosaturated Fat: 0.8 g
β€’Cholesterol: 105 mg 35%
β€’Sodium: 38 g 1%
β€’Potassium: 292 mg 8%
β€’Total Carbohydrate: 0 g 0%
β€’Dietary Fiber: 0 g 0%
β€’Sugar: 0 g 0%
β€’Protein: 28 g 56%

β€’Vitamin D 0%
β€’Cobalamin 91%
β€’Vitamin C 0%
β€’Iron 22%
β€’Vitamin B6 15%
β€’Magnesium 6%

These percentage values are all based on a 2,000 calorie diet.
Because of rabbit meat’s classification as game meat, you may not know much about its health benefits. To fully understand the benefits of rabbit, it is helpful to compare its nutritional value to other meats, like chicken or beef. Rabbit has the highest percentage of digestible proteins compared to other meats while also having the lowest amount of fat. Despite the low amount of fat, rabbit is still rich in healthy fats like polyunsaturated fats and monounsaturated fats. Domesticated rabbit meat also has fewer calories than chicken and has less cholesterol than any other commonly consumed meats, like beef, pork, and chicken.

If you are into rabbit raising and your purpose and target market is for meat.

Let this following tips be your guide before you jumpstart into rabbitry.

1. Look for a quality stock within your budget range. It is best to start to have a 1 or 2 pairs, learn and grow with it until you gain enough experience.

2. Plant more forages! Look for plants/grass na abundant sa area mo and feed it to your rabbits gradually hanggng masanay sila, so that you will not rely more on feeds lalot kung gipit ka sa budget.

That Php4 - Php8 difference can give you another 4-7kls of feeds is a wise advantage. And take note that availability of your feeds is important to the diet of your rabbits, kc hnd sila pwde biglain sa pagpapalit palit ng feeds.

4. Cage is very important.

5. Vitamins; You can make your own vitamins/supplement by applying the natural farming technologies. Fermentation. FPJ, FFA,FAA, OHN, LABS are just some of concoction that you can use.

Lastly, "Teach your family , relatives and community to eat a rabbit meat" para hindi ka mag problema on how to market your products in the future"

Hophop and Goodluck on your success! πŸ°πŸ°πŸ‡

RABBIT MEAT AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO PORK?

The government is developing national standards for slaughtering rabbits as part of its efforts to boost the domestic production of rabbit meat, which it considers as an alternative to pork.

The Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards (BAFS) has started consultations on the draft Philippine National Standard (PNS) on rabbit slaughtering practices, which will be scrutinized by the public and private stakeholders.

BAFS is an attached agency of the Department of Agriculture (DA) mandated to β€œformulate and enforce standards of quality in the processing, preservation, packaging, labeling, importation, exportation, distribution and advertising of agricultural and fisheries products.”

β€œOn August 10, 2021, a consultation on the initial draft PNS was aimed at gathering technical and commercial information on the slaughtering practices for rabbit,” BAFS said in a recent statement.

β€œThe consultation, conducted virtually, [had] 23 relevant stakeholders from government agencies, academe, research institutions, and private sectors [as participants].”

BAFS said a technical working group (TWG) has been created, composed of representatives from regulatory agencies, academe, research institutions, and a private sector organization to oversee the crafting of the PNS. The TWG will meet next month to deliberate on the comments and information gathered from the initial consultation to craft a working draft standard.

β€œThe working draft standard is expected to undergo another final stakeholder consultation and a series of TWG meetings before it is finalized and subsequently endorsed to the DA Secretary for approval by the 2nd quarter of 2022,” it said.

BAFS said the crafting of the PNS on rabbit meat slaughtering stemmed from an agreement forged between the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) and the Association of Rabbit Meat Producers Inc. (ARaMP) last year.

BAI and ARaMP noted that standards related to rabbit production must be developed to support the development of the industry.

β€œThe objective is to promote rabbit meat as an alternative source of protein after the swine industry was devastated by the African swine fever [ASF],” BAFS said.

Agriculture Secretary William D. Dar said rabbit meat could serve as an alternative to pork as the country grapples with high pork prices due to the devastation caused by ASF on hog farms. Dar noted that rabbit meat production has a shorter cycle than other livestock or poultry animals and could be cheaper than chicken meat.

β€œWe are supportive of the rabbit industry. We are serious [in this]. Poultry is the number one option but rabbit meat is part of our basket of options,” he said in an interview last year.| via BusinessMirror
