September 28th - marks the World Rabies Day! 🦠

𝐑𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 is crucial for public health, as rabies is a deadly viral disease that affects the central nervous system of mammals, including humans.

Here are some key points:

1. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗥𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗲𝘀? 🦠
- Rabies is caused by the rabies virus which is typically transmitted through the bite or scratch of an infected animal.
- The virus affects the brain and nervous system, leading to death if not treated before symptoms appear.

2. 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀 🐶🐱🦇
- The most common carriers of rabies include wild animals like bats, raccoons, skunks, and foxes. Domestic animals, particularly unvaccinated dogs and cats, can also spread the virus.

3. 𝗦𝘆𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗺𝘀
- 𝗜𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀: Unusual behavior, aggression, paralysis, and excessive salivation.
- 𝗜𝗻 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘀: Fever, headache, confusion, and later, paralysis, hallucinations, and hydrophobia (fear of water).

4. 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧
💉 𝐕𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Vaccinating pets is the most effective way to prevent rabies transmission.

💉𝐈𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: If bitten or scratched by a potentially rabid animal, immediately wash the wound and go to the nearest 𝐀𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫.

Have you ever wonder what whiskers do for our feline friends?

𝐀 𝐜𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐧𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐩𝐮𝐭. 🐱

The official term for them is vibrissae, which comes from Latin "vibrio" and means "to vibrate".
These tactile hair (whiskers) are loaded with nerves, and the whisker tip features a sensory organ known as a proprioceptor.

Cat whiskers should never be trimmed. They are vital for so many things that if you snip them off, your cat can get very disorientated and scared as they’ll be unable to gauge or sense their environment. Don’t worry if you find one or two that have fallen out though, they do grow back! 😽

I got stung by a bee, but I recovered! 🍯🐝

Dogs can experience insect bites and stings, especially during outdoor activities.
The most common spots for bee stings on dogs include the pads of the feet, the mouth, and the face.

If your dog has been bitten or stung, monitor them for any signs of allergic reaction such as drooling, excessive licking, facial swelling, redness, or discharges.
It's crucial to keep an eye on your pet's breathing if the sting site swells noticeably, especially if it's on the neck or face.

If your dog starts vomiting within 5-10 minutes after being stung or has increasingly pale gums, this could be a sign of anaphylactic shock. ⚡️
If your dog shows either of these symptoms, head to an emergency vet immediately. 🏥
