World Animal Day is an international day of action for animal rights and welfare celebrated annually on October 4, the feast day of Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. The mission of this day is to raise the status of animals in order to improve welfare standards around the globe.

Building the celebration of World Animal Day unites the animal welfare movement, mobilising it into a global force to make the world a better place for all animals.
It's celebrated in different ways in every country, irrespective of nationality, religion, faith or political ideology. Through increased awareness and education we can create a world where animals are always recognised as sentient beings and full regard is always paid to their welfare.

Throughout history, social movements (mass actions) like World Animal Day, have always been a major vehicle for ordinary people’s participation in politics, and key in fighting for social justice and reform. The lives of animals are profoundly affected by the actions of individuals, businesses, and nations. It’s therefore essential that, as sentient beings, their rightful status as recipients of social justice is established and translated into effective animal protection.

World Animal Day embraces all animals and the unique concerns of each, in every country, and makes animals front-page news. Through increased awareness and education, we can help develop a compassionate culture which feeds into legal reform and social progress to make this world a fairer place for all living creatures.

September is World Happy Healthy Cat Month! This was created by the CATalyst Council, a Non-Governmental Organization Founded to support feline health care and ensure all cats are valued and cared for as pets. While we welcome the Holiday Season, let us also remember that this is also the time to increase the level of compassion for the well-being of cats.

You may find some of these tips helpful in making this day more meaningful for our feline friends:

1. Have your regular visit to the vet.
2. Allow them to explore the great outdoors.
3. Provide as much human companionship as you can.

Today, the world is celebrating International Dog Day! Annually recognized to honor all dogs, from pets, to service dogs, and to those living in animal shelters waiting to be adopted.

It was founded in 2004 by Colleen Paige, Pet and Family Liifestyle Expert, Animal Rescue Advocate, Dog Trainer and Author. This day was created especially for our furry friends to recognize the immense significance of dogs and how they affect our lives. It also highlights the plight of abused and neglected dogs.

So How Do We Celebrate This Day?

1. Take your dog for a lovely walk, play with him or give him his favorite treat.
2. Make a donation, in cash, food or toys, to animal charities.
3. Volunteer with animal welfare initiatives.
4. Feed a stray dog.
5. Adopt a pet from your local shelter.
