Choosing the best omega-3 supplement and how much to give your pet! 🐾🐟
Several studies show omega-3 fatty acids can help your pet live longer, but with so many types of omega-3 oil: squid, algae, krill, salmon, anchovy, perna mussel🦑🐟🦪…how do you know which one is best?🤔
Even more confusing, how much should you give? A general rule of thumb, if you aren’t feeding any foods with EPA/DHA, is to add a zero to your dog’s weight (in pounds) and double that for their minimum EPA+DHA needs. For example, a 50 lb dog = 500 x 2 = 1000 mg total EPA + DHA.
But this amount may vary depending on bioavailability and absorption, which brings us back to the right type, manufacturing and processing...that ties into price (a lot to know about!).😅
So during tomorrow’s Inside Scoop episode, we’ll be reviewing the latest omega-3 research (there’s a lot of new studies!) with a special guest appearance from lipid expert Marc St. Onge. Marc will join us to answer these questions about omega 3’s, as well as:
🌱 Why seed and vegetable sources of omega 3’s aren’t enough for pets
🐟 Sources of EPA and DHA: good, better & best
🌿 Popular algae products may not be enough for pets
⚠️ If your commercial pet food already contains omega 3’s, why you should add more
We’ll see you Sunday at noon ET for this important discussion!
