*** Singleton litter do not reflect on the reproductive ability of the sire or dam. It is most likely the result of mating either too early or too late, which means the semen has just barely succeeded in fertilizing an egg by either surviving and waiting for the egg to mature, or by racing to it quickly before the egg dies.
