This is “Courage”, a parvo survivor. He’s so excited getting a belly rub here at Espadera Animal Clinic and Spa Dogs roll on their back and expose their bellies to us for two main reasons: as a display of appeasement, and as a request for a belly rub. It's important to know what your dog is telling you before you go in for belly rubs.A dog adopting an appeasement gesture (also called a submissive display) is trying to diffuse social tension by showing that they're not a threat. If you pet a dog who's showing submissive or appeasing behaviors, it can make the dog more nervous because you're now touching him in very vulnerable parts of his body.

Skin is the largest organ of the body and serves as an enclosing barrier providing environmental protection, regulating temperature, producing pigment and vitamin D, and functions in sensory perception.
This is “Sassa” a 3-y/o Shih-tzu presented to us with contaminated and infected wound which resulted from a dog fight 3-days prior to her visit.
Debridement was conducted wherein necrotic tissues were excised. Here, we have used the “advancement flaps” as surgical technique in the wound management. This technique involves sliding skin to cover an adjacent defect.

🐾CANINE UROLITHIASIS
Some mineral solutes precipitate to form crystals in urine; these crystals may aggregate and grow to macroscopic size, at which time they are known as UROLITHS( calculi or stones).
UROLITHIASIS is a general term referring to stones located anywhere within the urinary tract. Uroliths can develop in the kidney, ureter, bladder, or urethra and are referred to as nephroliths, ureterolits, urocystoliths, and urethroliths, respectively.
This is “Sprinkle”, a 4y/o, female shih-tzu presented to the clinic due to lethargy, inappetence and hematuria accompanied with labored, painful urination.

EAR CROPPING (Cosmetic Otoplasty)
The veterinary procedure known as Ear Cropping or cosmetic otoplasty is the removal of part or all of the pinnae or auricles, the external visible flap of the ear and earhole, of an animal; it sometimes involves taping to make the ears point upright.
Almost exclusively performed on dogs, it is an ancient practice that was once done for perceived health (to avoid ear injuries due to cannibalism and dog fight), practical or cosmetic reasons.
In modern times, it is banned in many nations, but is still legal in a limited number of countries. Where permitted, it is seen only in certain breeds of dog such as the Pit bull, Doberman Pinscher, Schnauzer, Great Dane, Boxer and Cane Corzo.
