"Is my rabbit pregnant?"

Actually, there are at least 3 very useful clues.

Your first clue a doe is pregnant is her mood - she gets cranky. A doe who was your best friend might suddenly flee to the back of the cage when she sees you coming. She might growl a little if you open the door to her cage. Does can get grouchy as early as a few days into her pregnancy. Don't worry. She'll chill out nearly as soon as her bunnies are born, or by the time the kits are peaking out of the nesting box, and become your BFF all over again.

Second Clue: The surest way to know if your rabbit is pregnant is to "palpate" her abdomen - meaning to feel for little baby lumps. You do this as early as day 10 or as late as day 14. This requires some practice, usually. If you can feel distinct, soft little grape-sized lumps in a row on either or both sides of the abdomen, this confirms the pregnancy.

Third Clue: Some pregnant rabbits become desperate to build their nest. This pregnant rabbit clue occurs a week or less before she's ready to give birth (3-4 weeks pregnant). Toss some hay or straw into her cage. If the doe starts gathering heaps of hay into her mouth like a blue jay carrying twigs for a nest, this is a sure sign she's pregnant. We call that bundle of hay in her mouth a "haystache" because with a little imagination, it looks like a mustache made of hay.

Ps. Our mother doe rabbit in the photo shows her nesting skills using her own fur! She really wants to give her kits a comfortable and warm resting place once they come out.

📌ALL ABOUT MATING THE BREEDER AGED DOE AND BUCK

•The approximate age of first mating of the doe is preferably 6 months of age while the buck at its 8 months. (More ideas about the buck in the previous post)

•As a rule doe should be taken to the cage of buck but never be done vice versa to avoid fighting. Early morning and early evening are the most conducive time for mating.

•A receptive doe will lift her tail and allow mating. Males vary greatly in their sexual drive. A buck may be slow in performing the service to a strange cage. If a buck is virile and doe in perfect heat, mating will occur almost immediately. (Most of the time, we allow the doe and the buck to stay together for a night to make sure that the doe can be successfully hit by the buck.In other cases, we allow the buck to mate fortunately the doe three times. Then, after a while, we will already seperate them from each other.)

•After successful mating the buck usually produces a typical cry and falls down to one side of the doe. One mating is usually sufficient. If a female does not allow in that case keeper should wait for 3 to 4 days or assist in mating holding the female.

•After mating the doe should be returned to her cage.

SOMETHING TO READ🤍

We know that a male rabbit is known as buck. Now, let's dive in to more of its fun facts!🐰

•Buck develops its breeding capabilities at the age of 8 months. An ideal buck should continue to maintain its reproductive ability at least for 2 to 3 years.

•A young buck may be allowed to mate one doe at an interval of 3 to 4 days. But, from 12 months of age onwards it may mate 4-6 does in 7 days.

•A buck beyond 6 years of age should be culled since semen quality declines. In order to keep the buck healthy additional protein, vitamin and minerals are to be supplemented in diet.

•Two breeding bucks should not be kept in same place as they will fight each other and cause injury.

This is one of the good things that you can benefit when you start a rabbitry business:

•Low maintenance - It is recommended that each rabbit ranging from 4 months up should only take 40 grams of pellets (depending on what kind of feeds is your choice). They can also eat variety of leaves such as banana leaves, carabao grass, napier, tangkong, malunggay leaves, etc. and of course, water.

I'm confident enough that our dear buyers really considered this pros. Thank you so much mga ma'ams.🤍 We at Jaithen's Bunny House are rooting for your journey as you dive yourself in this field. More powers!!🙌

DO YOU KNOW THAT...

does are mature and can breed at 5 to 6 months of age and can continue to have young for 4 years?

(It's awesome!!)

Additionally, the length of pregnancy in the rabbit is 31 days and the doe can produce from 1 to 12 young each time she gives birth.

(It is only equivalent for 1 month and you can possibly have a dozen of kits if ever. Fantastic!)

Moreover, she can become pregnant again within a few days of giving birth. However it is not good practice to allow the doe to become pregnant straight after giving birth. It is better to mate the doe when her young (litter) are 4 weeks old so that they are 8 weeks old when the next litter is born. In this way one doe can produce 6 litters a year.

Two weeks after mating you can feel the young through the side of the doe's belly.
