LEPTOSPIROSIS AWARENESS!!!

A patient was brought to clinic due to severe yellow discoloration (jaundice) of ear flap, mucous membrane, sclera, and lower abdomen.
Upon further examination, patient was diagnosed of canine leptospira infection.

Leptospira interrogans Canicola associated to tongue necrosis in dog without significant hematological alterations.

✔WHAT IS CANINE LEPTOSPIROSIS?
Leptospirosis is a zoonotic bacterial infection that is spread by rats, often through contaminated water. It is an extremely serious condition and is very often fatal for dogs.

✔WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS?
These common signs may be seen in varying degrees of severity:
1. Fever
2. Decreased appetite
3. Vomiting
4. Increased thirst and urination
5. Lethargy or weakness
6. Other signs may include dehydration, yellowing of the eyes or gums (jaundice).

✔WHAT IS THE TREATMENT?
Fluid therapy will be the primary treatment for leptospirosis in dogs to reverse any effects of dehydration.
Antibiotics will be prescribed by your veterinarian, with the type of antibiotic dependent on the stage of infection.

✔PREVENTION!
Prevention is much simpler than treatment, and your veterinarian can discuss with you if it is an appropriate vaccine for your dog’s lifestyle.

1. Vaccinate dogs annually with the leptospirosis vaccine
2. Limit access to standing water
3. Prevent rodent problems
4. Avoid contact with wildlife

Heartworm Larvae

Heartworm disease is a potentially fatal, but preventable, infection caused by a worm parasite, Dirofilaria immitis. The organism is transmitted by mosquitoes, which carry the heartworm larvae (called microfilariae) from an infected animal host to a new animal host.

Signs of heartworm disease may include mild persistent cough, reluctance to exercise, fatigue after moderate activity, decreased appetite, and weight loss.

Dogs that are 6 months of age and older should be tested for heartworms to start heartworm prevention. A dog may appear healthy on the outside, but on the inside, heartworms may be living and thriving.

Successful surgical removal of infected uterus of Chuchi. ❤️

Pyometra is a medical condition in which the uterus becomes filled with infection. This infection can cause lethargy, inappetence, and may include purulent discharge from the v***a. If left untreated the infection can become systemic and the uterus can rupture in the abdomen.

Ear mites in cats are common, but can cause severe irritation and are highly contagious. Thankfully, they are easily treatable. If you notice any symptoms of ear irritation such as head shaking, scratching or inflammation, you should get your cat examined to avoid secondary infections or torn eardrums.

Bingo was brought to the clinic because of high fever and loss of appetite. The dog has been castrated at home by using rubber band, wound was already necrotic and full of pus when they got here.

Wound repair was done to close the skin for faster healing and to prevent bacterial infection.

After 2weeks, Bingo visited for his followup checkup. There was already a smile on his face😊
