🔎 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗌𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗌𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗊𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱: Sheina Macy Manalo
From clinics to the laboratories, our speaker has dedicated her expertise to the world of zoonoses, advancing the role of veterinarians in safeguarding both human and animal populations through science-based solutions.

📂🔬 𝘌𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙚𝙚𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘿𝙧. Manalo's 𝙁𝙞𝙡𝙚.. 𝘟𝙀𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙩𝙚!
She is a veterinarian, an assistant professor, and a zoonoses and epidemiology expert. She is the co-lead of the UPLB Zoonoses Center, Epidemiology and Data Science division. Aside from this, Dr. Manalo is also an alternate scientist member of the UPLB Research Ethics Board and an associate at the DOST National Research Council.

She earned her DVM degree from the University of the Philippines Los Banos where she currently works as an assistant professor in veterinary public health. She also holds a Masters degree in Zoonoses and One Health from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain, further specializing in conservation medicine at the Department of Pathology and Parasitology of the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Brno, Czech Republic. This allowed her to co-author, publish, and present interdisciplinary studies in multiple journals and conferences across the world.

👀 𝘞𝘪𝘵𝘯𝘊𝘎𝘎 2 𝘛𝘊𝘎𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘺: Dr. Manalo is not only a doctor confined inside clinics. She is also a scientist who turns data into defenses against diseases. Throughout her work in the academe, she was able to work on multiple studies focusing on zoonotic parasitology, including the study of ZooTRIP intestinal parasites, Japanese encephalitis virus surveillance, and other epidemiology research.

Today, we come together and celebrate one of the most fascinating, though often misunderstood group of animals on our planet: 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬! 🐍🐢🊎🐊

From slithering snakes, to the hardiest turtles and tortoises. From the fiercest crocodilians, to the most adaptable lizards, reptiles uphold essential roles in ecosystems all over the globe. Reptiles are responsible for controlling pest populations, serve as both predators and prey in food chains, and are even indicators of our environmental health.

Unfortunately, multiple species of these wonderful animals face threats and duress due to a handful of factors, including habitat loss, difficulties due to climate change, illegal wildlife trading and a general human misunderstanding of their species. Some reptiles are classified as critically endangered in present day due to these threats, with some populations rapidly declining at alarming rates.

Reptile Awareness Day is not merely a celebration for the lives of these animals, but also a reminder of the importance of conservation and education. By learning more about these incredible animals and supporting any effort, no matter how big or small, to protect them and their habitats, we can all contribute and help ensure that they may continue to live and thrive for generations to come.

Let us not fear reptiles, rather be fascinated by them. Let us not forget them, rather celebrate their purpose and contributions to our planet. Let us all do our part in protecting these precious creatures, in turn, allowing them to maintain the balance of our biodiversities and our earth as a whole. 🀍🩵💙

𝐏ause. Breathe in, breathe out, and let go of your worries. It’s perfectly fine to take a step back for a moment; even the strongest heroes need to rest. ☁

𝐀ppreciate. Speak with your heart and acknowledge yourself — love begins within you. 🀍

𝐖onder and self-reflect. Communicate and check in with yourself. If you’re having some trouble, a friend or a mental health professional is always at your service. 🏃🏻🏃🏻‍♀🍃

𝐒pread love and pawsitivity. Have meaningful conversations with your loved ones — family, friends, or your furry pets. It doesn’t have to be something big; small acts of care also matter. 🊮

From chained dogs to abandoned cats, from illegally logged forests to silenced wildlife cries — every act of neglect leaves a trace. Under RA 8485 (as amended by RA 10631), these traces can become charges. And YOU might be the one to tip the scale toward justice.

From classroom lectures to disaster frontlines, our second speaker’s advocacy lies in the intersection of animal physiology, welfare, and emergency response.

📂🌟𝑚𝒄𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑫𝒓. 𝑫𝒆 𝑳𝒖𝒏𝒂’𝒔 𝑭𝒊𝒍𝒆... 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒆𝒕𝒆!
A veterinarian, educator, researcher, and public servant, Dr. De Luna is a faculty member at the Institute of Animal Science, College of Agriculture and Food Science, UPLB. She is a certified Livestock Emergency Guidelines and Standards (LEGS) trainer and was the lead volunteer for the 2020 Project Taal Emergency Animal Response Team.

She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from UPLB, and her Master’s in Agricultural Science from Nagoya University, Japan. As an Assistant Professor, she continues to champion animal welfare both in theory and practice, preparing the next generation of vets for roles in research, response, and reform.

👀 𝘞𝘪𝘵𝘯𝘊𝘎𝘎 𝘛𝘊𝘎𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘺: From muddy fields to academic halls, Doc’s work proves that science doesn’t stop at the lab door. When volcanoes erupted and animals were in danger, she didn’t just study solutions—she led them. That’s when it hit me... veterinarians are also frontliners in saving lives, animals and humans alike. 🌋🐐📚
