In commemoration of World Rabies Day on September 28, 2024, the PVMA Laguna Chapter Inc. held a successful educational and informational campaign for the youth of Famy, Laguna on October 1, 2024.

This initiative, is a cornerstone of our Adopt a Barangay Project, which was designed to foster awareness and promote responsible pet ownership and rabies prevention.

PVMA-LCI is committed to making a significant impact in the veterinary profession in Laguna by uniting veterinarians across the province to advance the field and serve the community.

The PVMA Laguna Chapter Inc. (PVMA-LCI) successfully conducted its “Adopt a Barangay” program in Barangay Tunhac, Famy, on August 13, 2024. This initiative is part of a series of activities aimed at assisting a local government unit in Famy, Laguna, to achieve a minimum 70% vaccination rate of the dog population at the barangay level. The program’s goal is to eradicate rabies and establish Famy, Laguna, as a Rabies-Free Municipality. In line with this objective, free consultations, vaccination, deworming, vitamin supplementation, and spay and neuter programs were also provided in the barangay. A seminar on guidelines for mass dog vaccination and dog capture and handling were given by Dr. Heferson Rellosa from the office of the provincial veterinarian of Laguna.

During the event, volunteer veterinarians and barangay officials vaccinated animals against rabies and the had a total of 71 patients (43 of which were dogs; 21 of which were cats) vaccinated; Vitamin Supplementation for 44 participating pets were also provided. Deworming services for cats and dogs were also provided. A total of 28 patients received free spay and neuter services.

The PVMA-Laguna Chapter Inc., would like to acknowledge, Dr. Roy Santos, our dedicated activity leader, and all of the members and volunteer veterinarians of the PVMA-Laguna Chapter Inc., as well as the public officials of the Municipality of Famy, who went above and beyond in extending services and for generously contributing their valuable time, expertise, effort, and resources to this initiative, despite their hectic schedules.

Get your hearts and minds ready as Philippine Veterinary Medical Association - Laguna Chapter Incorporated in partnership with Special Delight PH is proud to present to you a lecture titled, "Diagnostic Tools for Recognition of Cardiac Patients" that would be presented by one of our very own, Dr. Karlo Gicana.

Dr. Karlo Gicana is a distinguished veterinarian with a DVM and a Master's degree from the University of the Philippines Los Baños. He also holds an international PhD in veterinary science and technology from Chulalongkorn University. Dr. Gicana's research focuses on cardiac time intervals in dogs as a means of assessing cardiac function in dogs.

A prolific researcher, Dr. Gicana has published over 15 articles on veterinary medicine and received recognition through awards and participation in training programs. He has also served as a consultant for small animal cardiology practices in the Philippines.
