Strict Culling A Must
In Chicken Breeding
A chicken breeder worth his salt must undertake strict culling of inferior quality fowls.
Culling simply means eliminating and slaughtering prospective breeding materials which do not meet the standards.
First to go are the runts or the smallest in the flock because they will produce small birds as well.
Second to go would be those with deformities like crooked breastbone, short legs and short necks.
Third would be optional as this would involve the breeder's color preference or the shape of the comb.
If the breeder would like to produce black feathered chicken, then he should retain only the blacks
If his preference is peacombed chicken to look very Oriental, then he should eliminate those with straighcombs.
Remember this: A mango which produces sour fruits will produce seedlings whose fruits would also be sour.
If you want to produce quality chicken, breed quality roosters and hens.
