Armadillidium Nasatum Dalmatian

Here are some tips for caring for Armadillidium nasatum, also known as Dalmatian isopods:

Species Info:

These isopods prefer temperate to semi-arid environments with dry, sparsely vegetated habitats. They may have difficulty molting in tropical environments.

Temperature:
Most isopods prefer warmer temperatures, but each species has unique requirements. A temperature range of 72–82°F is generally ideal.

Humidity:
Use a hygrometer to monitor humidity and mist the enclosure as needed.
Food

Isopods need decaying wood and lots of leaves to survive. You can also provide a calcium source, such as cuttlebone, crushed eggshells, or crushed oyster shells. Avoid feeding them fish flakes, rice, cereal, or dog food.

Dalmatian gene
The dalmatian gene is a recessive gene that causes an absence of pigments, allowing color to appear only in spots. Members expressing this trait are born patternless and gain spots as they age.

CUBARIS CAERULEA

Origin: Thailand

Length: 10-20mm

Cubaris Caerulea is a woodlouse species in the Armadillidae family that is native to Thailand. It is also known as the "Yellow Panda" in the pet trade.

Here are some facts about Cubaris Caerulea:
Size: They can grow to be 10–20 millimeters long.

Lifespan: They have longer lifespans than other isopod genera.
Reproduction:
They have lower reproduction rates than other isopod genera.
Rolling up:
They can roll up into a ball, a behavior known as conglobation.
Isopods like Cubaris Caerulea thrive in environments with a moisture gradient.
You can create this gradient by placing a sphagnum moss trench on one side of their terrarium and focusing ventilation on the other side.
They also like to have rough material to climb and hide in, like tree bark.

CUBARIS AMBER PANDA

Origin: Thailand

Families: Armadillidae

Length: 17mm

Production rate: Slow

Species Info:

This species is a larger body species. It is characterized by mottled colrs of yellow and brown, but the body is distinguished by half yellow and half brown. It is a cool air species that is found within cave setting.

Temperature can range from 60°-75° Fahrenheit. Higher temperatures can cause stress and rapid death rate.

Food items offered are mango and carrots with success. Dry food powder/gel with high calcium and protein content.

Substrate should be damp and offer plenty of cover like flat bark or an area of leaf litter for the best environment. Also, placing limestone rock may not be needed but may improve reproduction rates.

Cubaris species originating from Thailand. If you ever had the desire to own sp. Cliff Ducky, this is one half of that species in appearance. It is hardy and easy to keep.

Housed on AGB with live oak leaf litter and cottonwood bark.

ARMADILLIDIUM VULGARE BIG SPOT

Species info:

Families: Armadillidiidae

Origin:

Length: 18mm

Geographic Range
Armadillidium vulgare, the common pillbug, is native to the edge of the Mediterranean and has been introduced to nearly all worldwide terrestrial landmasses, with particularly dense populations in temperate climates. There are significant populations throughout the United States, and it is also found in Madagascar, Australia, South Africa, and India, among many other areas. Armadillidium vulgare has also been extensively studied and collected in Japan, France, Canada, central Bohemia, the Czech Republic, and shorelines of western Romania

Habitat
Armadillidium vulgare is abundant and active as both a soil and surface dweller. Populations thrive in moist climates and damp soils. Armadillidium vulgare can be found in locations with a standard Mediterranean climate or in temperate agroecosystems. Data has been compiled that indicates that A. vulgare populations range throughout the temperate, subtropical, and subarctic climates of Japan. Humidity levels ranging from 50 to 60% are acceptable conditions to prevent desiccation. Optimal habitats have abundant decomposing organic matter, moderate temperatures, low illumination, and moderate to high humidity. While other terrestrial isopods populate thermal habitats such as the soil near heated swimming pools or shorelines during colder winter months, A. vulgare prefers drier areas further from water. Locations where the soil entirely freezes over do not encourage population growth

CUBARIS SP BLONDE DUCKY

Species Info:

Families: Armadillidae

Origin: Thailand

Length: 20mm

Trade name: Rubber Ducky

Family: Armadillidae

Cubaris sp. ‘Blonde Ducky’ (sometimes also called ‘Blonde Rubber Ducky’), is a cute cubaris color morph with light yellow head and tail and the rest of their body is a vivid orange.
As the isopods age the light yellow color on their face and tail begins to show. They are similar in size and body type to the Cubaris sp. ‘Lemon Blue’, thus it’s a large cubaris isopod.

ARMADILLIDIUM PERACCAE

Species Info:

Families: Armadillidiidae

Length:18mm

Peraccae is a smaller species of Armadillidium native to Greece and italy. It breeds quite quickly and produces year round.

Armadillidium peraccae isopods thrive in a moderately humid environment, with a humidity level of around 70% to 80%. To maintain the appropriate humidity, misting the enclosure with dechlorinated water regularly is recommended.

The backs of peraccae are decorated as a unique bumpy surface.

Armadillidium Peraccae do well in temperate to semi-arid environments.

They may have issues molting in tropical environments, and like to eat soft bodied plants.

ARMADILLIDIUM VERSICOLOR

Origin: Slovenia

Families: Armadillidiidae

Lenght: 13mm

East alps and Danube countries and along the balkan countries.

Temperature:
21-25 °C

Size:
up to 1,5 cm

Social Behaviour:
This kind prefers living on mineral grounds but you can still find them on humus grounds as well.

They hide under gras, walls and stones.
They’re really active and don’t hide too much.

Breeding:

Armadillidium versicolor is easy to keep and also easy to breed, therefore they’re great for beginners as well! Due to their huge colour variations, they’re perfect for colour breeding experiments. The development time period is about 6 months.

Specials:
Be careful not to dry out the isopod tank. More is better than less in this case. The ground substrate should make up around 4-5 cm in height. That way you will protect the tank of dryness and also waterlogging.

They like eating fallen leaves but also moss. I always offer oak leaves and every 3 days I’ll give them something like zucchini, sweet potatoes or carrots. Only put enough in there for about 2 days.

Tipp: Since they naturally live on mineral grounds I would recommend adding a little garden lime to the substrate.

There are more information to follow!

CUBARIS AMBER DUCKY

Here are some tips for caring for Cubaris amber ducky isopods:

Origin: Thailand

Families: Armadillidae

Length: 10-20mm

Temperature: Maintain a temperature above 22°C (72°F).

Humidity: Provide a humidity gradient and lots of places for the isopods to escape moisture. Too much humidity can cause moulting issues and die-offs.

Ventilation: Provide good ventilation.
Substrate: Provide a substrate that's deep enough for the isopods to burrow into, up to 6 inches or more. Keep the moss more moist than the rest of the substrate.

Calcium: Provide calcium sources, such as leaf litter, fish food, or large pieces of limestone.

Cubaris amber ducky isopods are orange-yellow with black segments and grow to about 2 cm (0.8 in) on average. They are a rare and unique species that have become popular and sought-after since their discovery.
