1. Fleas:
Appearance: Tiny, wingless insects that feed on blood.
Signs: Intense itching, scratching, hair loss, flea dirt (black specks that turn red when moistened).
Prevention: Flea preventatives (topical or oral), regular grooming, and keeping the environment clean.
Treatment: Flea shampoo, flea comb, and possibly vet-prescribed medication.
2. Ticks:
Appearance: Small, spider-like arachnids that attach to the skin.
Signs: Tick bites, potential for disease transmission (Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever).
Prevention: Tick repellents, tick checks after outdoor activities, removing ticks properly.
Treatment: Tick removal with tweezers, potential need for antibiotics depending on disease exposure.
3. Roundworms:
Appearance: Long, thin worms that live in the intestines.
Signs: Pot-bellied appearance, vomiting, diarrhea, poor coat condition.
Prevention: Deworming medication, good hygiene practices.
Treatment: Deworming medication prescribed by a veterinarian.
4. Heartworms:
Appearance: Long, thin worms that live in the heart and blood vessels.
Signs: Coughing, lethargy, difficulty breathing, weight loss.
Prevention: Heartworm preventatives (monthly chewables or topical treatments), regular vet checkups.
Treatment: Treatment can be complex and may involve multiple medications.
5. Tapeworms:
Appearance: Flat, segmented worms that attach to the intestines.
Signs: Scooting (dragging their rear on the ground), weight loss, increased appetite.
Prevention: Preventing flea infestations (as fleas are the intermediate host), deworming.
Treatment: Deworming medication prescribed by a veterinarian.
6. Ear Mites:
