Owning a dog is not just a privilege; it’s a responsibility. They depend on us for, at minimum, food and shelter, and deserve much more. When you take a dog into your life, you need to understand the commitment that dog ownership entails.

The health benefits of dog walking to you and your dog:

Benefits include improved cardiovascular fitness, lower blood pressure, stronger muscles and bones (built up by walking regularly), and decreased stress. A regular walk is vitally important for your pet's health too.

First video shows its lack of focus and discipline. Just sniffing around and does not know how to walk with its handler.

Second video dog obviously knows what to do focusing on the command of the handler, ignoring distractions and enjoying its walk.

How to calm a dog in public?

Always be consistent, set a routine, use positive reinforcement, distract your dog if they start to get stressed, and keep your body language as relaxed as possible. With time, this should (hopefully) teach your dog that being out in public is an enjoyable activity, not a stressful one.

Why is obedience training important for dogs?

Reactivity in dogs can be a difficult and sometimes dangerous problem that takes time and patience to reverse. Although any dog can develop reactivity due to developmental, environmental and medical reasons, some dogs, such as terrier and shepherding breeds, are more likely to develop reactive behaviors. Early socialization, positive reinforcement and finding a solution are some of the ways to change it's behavior.

Just picked up a reactive dog from Almeria, Biliran.
