Myths and rumors spread quickly like a virus, if one person hears something they pass it on to another and another, and suddenly the myths and rumors become well established. Practicing myths and fallacies about health can be dangerous, it can cause severe illness or worse death. For this reason, we should be aware and informed on what is the truth for us to avoid possible risks.

As promised we'll be sharing information regarding Rabies on a weekly basis since March is . This week's content is regarding common misconceptions about Rabies. We believe it is important for everyone to know the facts since stigma against rabies is still very much rampant in our country. Rabies scare is also the sole reason why there is a mandate to capture and euthanize strays. Imagine, thousands of animal lives lost every single day all due to an irrational fear based on deceitful information that all dogs have rabies. Let's be honest, at some point in our life we believed and practiced some of these rabies misconceptions. However, it is never too late to avoid them and share them with others.

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER. BE INFORMED.

Let us do our due diligence and eradicate the stigma surrounding this disease that is easily preventable with vaccination. Let us not spread fake information that will only propagate indifference towards strays. Let us continue raising awareness regarding the truth about rabies because strays deserve that. 🙏

I'm forest, 3 month old princess type shih. I completed my vaccination against DHPPiL last day.

First of many.
Last Saturday (July 10,2021) VetFriends Veterinary Services in coordination with ma'am Rojo of BAWET SFADS and BLGU Alegria, we successfully conducted a FREE castration and Deworming activities.
17 small animals were castrated (10 of which are rescued animals under Ms.Janets' care).

Let's talk about:

CANINE TRANSMISSIBLE VENEREAL TUMOR (CTVT)

What is CTVT?

CTVT are cauliflower-like,pedunculated,modular, papillary or multilobulated in appearance.
SIZE: ranges from small nodule of 5mm to >10 cm.
Surface is often ULCERATED and inflamed and bleeds easily.
They can be solitary or multiple.
LOCATION: almost always located on the genitalia

TRANSMISSION: direct dog to dog contact. MAY be transplanted to adjacent skin and oral, nasal or conjunctival mucosae.

CTVT grows rapidly and metastasis is uncommon but if they do,they can occur usually to the regional lymph nodes and other sites.

Can CTVT be treated?
Depending on the severity of the case, treatment can go from surgical removal, radiation therapy and chemotherapy.
In severe cases, your Vets may recommend euthanasia.
(Please consult your nearest VETERINARIAN)

Can CTVT be AVOIDED?
1. If animals (dogs and cats) are not intended for breeding, they should be nuetered/spayed.
2. If they are for breeding,please make sure that the breeder's are healthy and no reproductive problems.
3. Have your breeder's regularly check by a duly License Veterinarian
