What is SUPERWORM?

Superworms are also commonly referred to as King Worms or Morio Worms.

Superworms are much larger, have a hard exoskeleton, and do not need to be refrigerated. In fact, refrigeration will kill Superworms. Superworms are also often confused as being bigger giant mealworms. Superworms do not contain grown hormones to prevent pupation like the giant mealworms do. In order to prevent pupation for superworms, you must keep them with other larvae. As long as they are in constant bodily contact with other larvae, they will remain in this stage.

For dietary and nutritional considerations, superworms have a higher calcium and fat content and slightly less protein than mealworms. Superworms are used to feed birds, and chickens. They are also used as bait for fish and a good source of nutrition for leopard geckos & reptiles.
