Mark Joseph M. Desamero
PhD Veterinary Medicine
University of the Philippines Los Baños

Dr. Mark Joseph M. Desamero is recognized for his achievements in the field of veterinary medicine as he has been extensively involved in determining the biological activity of natural products that are indigenous in the country through the use of laboratory animal models. For instance, his Apitherapy Team of the UP Los Baños Bee Program has provided substantial evidence on the safety profile and various therapeutic properties of Philippine stingless bee-derived honey and propolis including its tumor suppressive, hair-growth promoting, anti-inflammatory, anti-pain, wound healing, and neuroprotective activity.

Dr. Desamero obtained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program from the University of the Philippines Los Baños in 2010. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy Degree from the Laboratory of Biomedical Science, Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences at the University of Tokyo (UTokyo) in 2020. Currently, he is an Associate Professor handling and mentoring UP College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) students and developing undergraduate, MS, and PhD courses in Laboratory Animal/Biomedical Science. He is also the present College Secretary of UP College of Veterinary Medicine at UP Los Baños.

In a momentous achievement, the Rodeo Club Philippines-USM Chapter has finally wrangled the 𝐌𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐨𝐧-𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐎𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 award during the 25𝐭𝐡 𝐆𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐝 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐥 at the University of Southern Mindanao Auditorium last May 21, 2024 with the theme "𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩".
