Today, we remember and honor the millions of men, women, and children who were victims of slavery and the transatlantic slave trade. For over four centuries, more than 15 million people were forcibly taken from Africa and subjected to brutal exploitation, violence, and dehumanizationโ€”a crime against humanity whose effects still echo in the present.

This day is not only a remembrance but also a call to action against racism, discrimination, and modern slavery. The transatlantic slave tradeโ€™s legacy is still felt through racial inequalities and systemic injustices around the world.

As advocates of SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities and SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, we stand in solidarity with all efforts to uncover historical truth, uphold human dignity, and fight against all forms of racial oppression and social injustice.

In remembering the past, we commit to building a future where freedom, dignity, and equality are rights for all.

On March 24, 2025, we commemorated the International Day for the Right to the Truth, a solemn reminder that truth is essential in the fight against injustice, impunity, and human rights violations.

This day honors the memory of victims and human rights defenders who have foughtโ€”and continue to fightโ€”for truth and accountability. It also underscores the right of individuals and communities to know the truth about gross human rights violations and the circumstances surrounding them.

As advocates of SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, we uphold the belief that truth-telling is a powerful step toward justice. Recognizing the truth not only honors the dignity of victims but also strengthens efforts to prevent future violations and protect fundamental freedoms.

In the face of denial and erasure, we stand firm: The truth must be known, and justice must be served.

Last March 22, 2025, we celebrated World Water Dayโ€”a reminder that clean water is a fundamental human right, not a privilege. Yet, billions of people worldwide still lack access to safe and reliable water sources, putting their health, dignity, and future at risk.

This yearโ€™s observance highlights the urgent need for sustainable water management as climate change, pollution, and overconsumption worsen the global water crisis. Marginalized communities remain the most vulnerable, making it crucial to ensure equitable access to this life-sustaining resource.

As advocates for SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting policies and actions that protect water resources and ensure safe water for all. A world where everyone can access clean water is not just possibleโ€”it is necessary.

Together, letโ€™s protect waterโ€”because every drop counts.

Racial discrimination remains a pervasive issue that denies individuals their dignity, rights, and opportunities. This day reminds us that the fight against racism is far from overโ€”and that every act of injustice must be met with collective resistance and unwavering solidarity.
for

Rooted in history, we commemorated yesterday the 1960 Sharpeville Massacre in South Africa, where peaceful protestors against apartheid were met with violence. Decades later, the echoes of racial inequality persist globallyโ€”in systems, institutions, and everyday life.

As advocates for SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities and SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, we call for a world where no one is judged or limited by race or ethnicity. True justice demands that we challenge systemic oppression and foster inclusive societies that honor diversity.

Racism has no place in our world. Today, we stand in solidarity with all communities fighting for freedom, dignity, and equality.

Happiness is not just a feelingโ€”it is a fundamental human right. โ˜€๏ธ

On this International Day of Happiness, we recognize that true well-being goes beyond personal joy; it is rooted in equity, sustainability, and collective prosperity. A society that prioritizes mental health, social justice, and inclusive progress creates a world where happiness is not a privilege, but a shared experience.

As advocates of SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, we stand for policies and actions that uplift all communities. Letโ€™s work toward a world where happiness is accessible to everyoneโ€”because no one should be left behind.

"A just world needs women on the bench." โš–๏ธโœจ

Today, we celebrate International Women Judges Day by honoring the resilience, integrity, and contributions of women in the judiciary. Their presence is more than representationโ€”it is a powerful stand for justice, equality, and the rule of law.

As advocates of SDG 5: Gender Equality and SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, we recognize the importance of breaking barriers in the legal profession. A truly fair and just society is one where courts reflect the diversity of the people they serve.

This March, we celebrate not just the achievements of women but also their ongoing fight for equality and justice. Despite progress, barriers remainโ€”from the gender wage gap and workplace discrimination to the continued silencing of womenโ€™s voices in politics and society.

In the Philippines, gendered language continues to reinforce limiting roles for womenโ€”terms like โ€œlady guardโ€ imply that being a โ€œguardโ€ alone is not enough, while โ€œkatiwalaโ€(caretaker) is used for women and โ€œtagapamahalaโ€ (manager) for men, subtly reinforcing inequality. These biases go beyond language; they sustain a system that undervalues womenโ€™s capabilities in leadership, governance, and labor.

As advocates of SDG 5: Gender Equality, we call for a fairer, more inclusive worldโ€”one that values individuals based on skill, integrity, and dedication rather than gender.

This Womenโ€™s Month, we do more than celebrateโ€”we take a stand. The fight is far from over, and we will not stop until true equality is achieved.

Ngayong ika-25 ng Pebrero, ang UP Diliman Youth Advocates for UNESCO ay nakikiisa sa paggunita ng ika-39 anibersaryo ng EDSA People Power Revolutionโ€”isang makasaysayang patunay ng lakas ng sambayanang Pilipino sa mapayapang paglaban laban sa diktadura.

Pilitin man itong ibaon sa limot, mananatili tayong maninindigan.

Pilitin man itong burahin, mananatili tayong maninindigan. Ang diwa ng EDSA ay atinโ€”panghawakan at ipaglaban natin ito.

This Rizal Day, the UPD Youth Advocates for UNESCO pays tribute to the life and legacy of Dr. Josรฉ Rizalโ€”a hero whose intellect, compassion, and dedication to education and justice continue to inspire generations. Rizal believed in the power of the youth as the hope of the nation, a belief rooted in his conviction that education and critical thinking are the cornerstones of a free and progressive society. As advocates of UNESCOโ€™s mission, let us embody Rizalโ€™s ideals by fostering a society where knowledge, creativity, and compassion thrive.

May this remind us of the enduring responsibility we carry as the nationโ€™s hope, and may we continue to use our minds and hearts to create a brighter, more inclusive society for all.

The UPD Youth Advocates for UNESCO stands in solidarity with the ongoing fight for freedom, justice, and equality, drawing strength from the life and legacy of Andrรฉs Bonifacio, the Father of the Philippine Revolution. On this Bonifacio Day, we honor his unyielding courage and profound dedication to the Filipino people's struggle for independence.

Bonifacio's fight was not merely a call to arms but a powerful reminder of the importance of collective action, unity, and the relentless pursuit of a just and humane society. His vision for a free Philippines continues to inspire movements advocating for human rights, national sovereignty, and social equity.

As advocates of youth empowerment and cultural preservation, we reaffirm our commitment to upholding these principles, fostering spaces for dialogue, and championing initiatives that advance education, peace, and social justice. In honoring Bonifacioโ€™s legacy, we recognize that the fight for true freedom is far from overโ€”it is a call to action for every Filipino to stand firm in the face of oppression and to work tirelessly toward a brighter, more equitable future.

Let us move forward with courage, unity, and a shared vision of nation-building, embodying Bonifacioโ€™s revolutionary spirit in our advocacy and everyday actions.

This month, we celebrate the rich heritage, diverse cultures, and fervent spirit of the Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous Cultural Communities (ICCs/IPs) of the Philippines in accordance with Proclamation No. 1906, Series of 2009. The proclamation aims to encourage people's participation in celebrating and preserving Indigenous cultures as part of the Life of the Nation.

As we honor their past and celebrate their glory, the UPD Youth Advocates for UNESCO also stand with them in the presentโ€”committed to advocating for the preservation of their cultural treasures and for ensuring their rights and voices are heard. Their traditions, languages, and valuable contributions to our environment and society have been deeply integrated into the fabric of our nation.

Together, let us be advocates to share their stories, broaden our understanding, and strengthen our respect and appreciation for the heritage of our Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous Cultural Communities. For we believe that building a more inclusive and sustainable future starts with understanding and supporting their rights and aspirations. โœŠ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

In celebration of World Animal Road Accident Awareness Day, the UPD Youth Advocates for UNESCO stands united in promoting safer roads for all creatures. ๐Ÿพ

Let's protect wildlife by raising awareness, driving responsibly, and making our streets a safer space for animals and humans alike.

Many innocent animals, mostly cats and dogs, become victims of vehicular incidents and accidents caused by careless drivers who lack awareness and regard for road safety. Some animal victims survived; others were handicapped or attained fatal injuries that often led to death. Some fortunate ones were rescued, fostered, and adopted.

Today, ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿš˜ World Animal Road Accident Awareness Day, ๐Ÿš˜๐Ÿพ we remember our dear pets and stray animals who have unfairly fallen victim to road accidents.

We remember sweet Jiraiya, a ginger cat from Palma Hall, who had been hit by an irresponsible student driver on campus.

We remember beloved Dili from The Teachersโ€™ Village and all the other cats and dogs victims of hit-and-run cases. We pray that they are now happily and safely running the rainbow bridge.

CAPWA UP strongly advocates for road safety, not just for our dear animals but also for humans. Let us remember that we share our roadsโ€”our communities and thus we are all responsible for creating safer and kinder spaces for humans and animals alike.

Here are some SIMPLE reminders on how to be an advocate against animal road accidents. ๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ

1๏ธโƒฃ Respect speed limits, and slow down once you see any animal ahead. You may use your car horn to allow them to move if possible.
2๏ธโƒฃ Before driving, make sure that you are in the right state of mindโ€”sober and not distracted. Make sure your vehicles do not have resting animals nearby.
3๏ธโƒฃ When driving, be aware of all the road safety tips in cases of dark or rain; keep your headlights on and watch out for unexpected furry friends on the road.
4๏ธโƒฃ Report stray or injured animals promptly to authorities or animal welfare groups.
5๏ธโƒฃ Educate yourself further on road safety for humans and animals, whether you drive your own vehicle or a commuter passenger.

Happy World Animal Road Accident Awareness Day! ๐ŸŒป๐Ÿ’š

From the moment we first set foot on school grounds, a teacher was thereโ€”ready to guide, nurture, and serve as a second parent to us. Today, October 5, 2024, we celebrate World Teachers' Day! This is not only a time to recognize teachers, the backbone and persons who transform education, but also to recognize all issues they face, such as discrimination, low wages, and unfair treatment.

The UPD Youth Advocates for UNESCO honors all Filipino teachers and everyone who is a teacher figure who takes up the mantle of educating others. Teachers are our modern-day heroes, consistently helping individuals become the best versions of themselves. Just as they did during the pandemic, teachers have always been willing to adjust and adapt, driven by their commitment and passion for teaching. Not only are they role models, but they are also inspiring and help shape the future.

This year's World Teachers' Day emphasizes the pressing need to tackle teachers' systemic challenges and promote a more inclusive conversation about their role in education, enforcing the theme, "Valuing Teacher Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education.โ€. Thus, this reminds everyone to empower and advocate for teachers' rights and well-being.

With this, the UPD Youth Advocates for UNESCO stands with all teachers in pursuing quality education, fair wages, and a firm stance for better educational budget allocation. Together, let us amplify their voices and ensure that they are heard. After all, teachers are human, too, deserving of respect and support in their noble profession. Let us appreciate their immense worth and stand with them in their fight for rights and recognition.
