Yung sinama ka lang sa galaan tapos nadamay ka pa…. 😹😹😹

Kisses was brought in the clinic originally only as moral support for her sister who got sick. Her furdad decided then to have her checked and tested as well. 👩‍⚕️ LUCKILY, she was cleared. ♥️

Our 5-month old patient, Bella, has been infected with the deadly Canine Parvovirus (CPV) with concurrent intestinal worm infestation and is currently being treated and cared for in our isolation ward.

✅ CPV commonly affects unvaccinated dogs and is one of the viruses that are far from easy to treat and manage, simply because there is no cure but supportive treatment which varies depending on the patient’s condition.

✅ Prognosis (chances of survival) is better with aggressive inpatient treatment/hospitalization.

✅ The most significant clinical challenge is owner finances; many owners may not be able to afford the laboratory exams and recommended medications that are both necessary to increase the likelihood of the patient’s full recovery.

Despite the financial burden, Bella’s furmom is committed in helping her survive this fight. More importantly, our team is 100% committed in her treatment.

This adorable weeks-old puppy is just one of a Shih Tzu litter which presented with:

🙀 Swimmer Puppy Syndrome (splay legs)
🙀 Pectus Excavatum (deformity of the thorax/chest).

In dogs, there’s a high prevalence of pectus excavatum in brachycephalic breeds such as Shih Tzu, english bulldog, american bully, pekingese, and the like. Its cause is not well defined but some studies suggest it could be congenital, hereditary, nutritional, and/or environmental.

Some common clinical signs observed by owners with the abovementioned conditions are:

👎 difficulty in breathing
👎 heavy panting
👎 inability to walk and stand up properly

👩‍⚕️👩‍⚕️👩‍⚕️Treatment is variable and usually depends on the severity of the symptoms. Best to have your puppy physically examined first by the doctor so you can be properly guided through the process.👩‍⚕️👩‍⚕️👩‍⚕️

First two pictures were taken on his follow up check up, just after a few days of home care and management including:

✅ physiotherapy
✅ environmental aspect
✅ nutritional aspect

…all of which were discussed by our vet with the pet owner♥️

We are now glad to see that his breathing has improved from the first visit. 👏 still a long way to go but just on the right track! 🐾🐾🐾

Cases of rabies, parvovirus, distemper virus and blood parasitism have gone viral on pet owners groups on social media. Good news is that these are some of the diseases that can actually be prevented👍

Although currently available vaccines do not cover all diseases and infections, we continue to advocate pet owners to still give their pets preventive medicines that are available. Some of which are the ff:

Meet Lilo, our Feline Panleukopenia virus (FPV) survivor, who is also highly suspected for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM)—one of the most common heart diseases in cats.

After having survived FPV, Lilo was again presented in the clinic for signs of heatstroke at home. However, initial laboratory findings highly suggest HCM🙀 He is now for close monitoring with a long term goal of slowing down the progression of his disease.

Kudos to Lilo’s rescuer and now furmom for never giving up on this little fighter! They are both lucky to have each other♥️

We are all praying for his continuous recovery 🫶🙏🫶

🍑What a BUTTiful day!🍑🐾😉

🍑 According to MSD Veterinary manual, there are several types of A**L SAC DISEASES, including impaction (“pagbabara”), inflammation, abscessation (sign of infection) and neoplasia (tumor).

🍑 Diagnosis is typically made by physical examination by the vet. Other laboratory exams will be recommended by the doctor when necessary.

🍑 Some of the common clinical signs are discomfort during sitting or pooping, frequent licking on the 🍑 and scooting.

👩‍⚕️ Discussing with the vet its treatment and management greatly helps in making the patient feeling comfortable again 😉

The Circle of Life😍😍😍

3 pups out♥️ Chanel, their mom, was brought in just in time for an expected C-Section by her furMom.

Xrays and an ultrasound were done a week prior to estimated due date. Based on the findings, one fetal head was bigger than the birth canal and owner was informed that a c-section is highly probable. With the help of these laboratory tests, owner was able to prepare well for Chanel and her beautiful babies👏👏👏

A case of fracture:

5month old pomeranian, Mikey, accidentally fell from his furmom’s bed 😔 These toy breeds usually have very fragile bones and are prone to fractures due to trauma. Luckily at his age, bones and cartilages are still growing and healing faster than older dogs😉 Our hopes are high that he will be able to jump around again soon after healing😅

This June, we were visited by the Bureau of Animal Industry for their routine inspection of our boarding facility. They have been doing their best efforts to monitor and remind different pet establishments to continuously improve each of our own services for our valued pets and pet owners alike.

In light of this, we are posting our new and revised protocol for our Boarding Facility for our clients’ reference. Our management will be more strict in implementing these rules to give emphasis on protecting first and foremost, our beloved furbabies.

“Doc, kailangan ba talaga ang mga laboratory tests? Alin po ang pinakaimportante?”

These are just two of the most commonly asked questions during consultations. Fact is, more often than not, a patient comes in with more than one condition at a time, leaving doctors dealing with it in a highly strategic process and line of treatment, while also managing pet owners’ expectations and frustrations when it comes to their pet’s prognosis and the costs of treatment.

Most of the time, doctors cannot base their diagnosis on just the patient’s history and physical exam alone. Just like human doctors, vets rely greatly on lab exams, as these will help them confirm/rule out some of their suspected conditions/diseases to come up with a diagnosis and properly address the problem.

Just as in the case of Phoebe, our elderly patient who’s had severe anemia, pyometra, endocrine disease, gallbladder sludge, pancreatitis and blood parasitism. PHoebe presented one day in our clinic with only general symptoms such as decreased appetite and weakness. Without the tests, our team would not have been able to give her the help she truly needs.

So going back to the questions—YES, madalas kailangan ang mga labs. At hindi magrerekomanda ang mga doktor kung alam nyang hindi ito importante. 😉

See that smooth, shiny coat of this happy dog?🤓

Meet Eeyore, our loud (but super sweet and friendly!) beagle friend. He presented with redness, frequent itching, alopecia (hairloss) and otitis (inflammation of the ear) during his first visit.

He looked sad and obviously irritated then, but after some series of tests, food trial, treatment and a bunch of follow up check ups, he’s looking pretty great now and always happy to see us🥰❤️ He’s now on his maintenance diet (Royal Canin) and medicine (APOQUEL® (oclacitinib tablet)😉

A lot of skin conditions in dogs may be frustrating for both pet owners and their vets, but a combination of proper treatment, owner compliance and regular check ups will go a loooong way 👍
