BREAKING NEWS
Veterinarians at the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center in the USA think they have worked out the reason why grapes are toxic to dogs.

After receiving reports of vomiting and kidney injury following exposure to cream of tartar, veterinarians put two and two together and worked out that tartaric acid and potassium bitartrate, compounds present in cream of tartar, are also present in grapes.

This may finally answer the long standing question as to why dogs develop kidney injury following ingestion of grapes. It also answers the question as to why some dogs are affected and others are not. This conundrum lies in the variability in tartaric acid concentration in grapes with concentrations changing based on grape type, locality and ripeness.

Whilst 20g of grapes per kg (approximately 5 grapes per kg) has been reported to cause kidney damage, there is a report of a dog eating 1/2 grape per kg developing kidney injury also. So the best advice out there is still to avoid feeding your dog grapes and sultanas!

Our beloved pets need dental care too. 🦷

Did you know that pets need regular brushing of teeth? But sometimes, it’s really hard especially when they’re not used to it. Nasty plaques and tartar could accumulate resulting to halitosis (bad breath), gingivitis and other health problems. The picture below says it all. 😷

But don’t worry, we got you covered. VetPartners Animal Clinic offers dental prophylaxis (dental cleaning). 🦷

Ask your trusted Veterinarian on how to keep your pet’s dental health in good shape. 🐶

TICKS, FLEAS and HEARTWORM are common parasites that can harm your pets. But, you can prevent them by giving them any of these. Ask your vets what's good for your pets! :)

Confused on what ectoparasiticide is best for your pet?

Not all diseases are caused by viruses. It only requires one single bite of infected tick and mosquito to transmit vector-borne diseases (such as Ehrlichiosis, Anaplasmosis, Babesios and Canine Heartworm) to your pets. There are no vaccines yet for these parasites!

Hence, we always encourage our clients to make sure that their pets would get regular external parasite preventives. The key word here is "regular".

None of these products are completely perfect. They will not make invisible shields to protect your pet from possible bites but they are helpful in limiting your pet's exposure which will lessen the chance of disease transmission. Keeping your home/kennel/cattery free from external parasites is also necessary. No amount of preventive drugs can help if the environment of your pet is also a breeding ground for these parasites.

Always ask your vet on how to control external parasites, not only to your dogs/cats but also at your homes.

You wouldn't allow your uncle who's not a medical personell vaccinate your growing (human) baby, would you?

We shouldn't even be posting about this. But if you're looking for reasons why ONLY your vet should vaccinate your furbabies and NO ONE ELSE, here are just a few of them.

Please be reminded of the differences of these vaccines :)

5 in 1?
6 in 1?
8 in 1?

What are their differences?

Here is a quick guide.

ADDENDUM: Just to avoid confusion. The terminologies used to identify the vaccines (e.g., "5 in 1") are their widely-used names and do not necessarily indicate the number of diseases covered. For example, the term "8 in 1" doesn't mean it covers 8 diseases, but rather connotes the two extra serovars of Leptospira. On paper, "5 in 1 (LR)" and "6 in 1" vaccines cover more diseases than "8 in 1." In fact, "8 in 1" covers the exact same diseases that "5 in 1" prevents (except the two extra Leptospira serovars).
