What is Avian influenza or bird flu?
✅Avian Influenza or bird flu refers to the disease caused by infection with avian (bird) influenza (flu) Type A viruses. These viruses naturally spread among wild aquatic birds worldwide and can infect domestic poultry and other bird and animal species. Bird flu viruses do not normally infect humans.
Preventing disease is the best way to keep your flock healthy.
✔Separate your flock from disease sources including wildlife and wild birds.
✔Keep your poultry area and equipment clean.
✔Separate new or returning birds from your flock for at least 30 days.
✔Don’t share equipment between neighbors.
If someone else must visit your birds:
✅Ask them about what other bird contact they have recently had.
✅Ask them to wash their hands and wear clean clothes and footwear.
🏷REMINDER
✔Always do biosecurity measures in poultry.
✔Wash your hands frequently.
✔Disinfecting and cleaning is a must.
