An AURAL HEMATOMA is a collection of blood within the cartilage of the ear and the skin. It usually arises as a self-inflicted injury from your pet’s scratching and head shaking. The underlying causes include all conditions that result in otitis externa (infection of the external ear canal).

What causes aural hematoma in cats?
- Increased capillary fragility, such as with Cushing's disease
- Ear inflammation
- Immune-mediated diseases
- Ear allergies
- Parasites
- Ear infections
- A sudden trauma, such as bite wound or blunt trauma

If you have a pet that is excessively scratching their ears or shaking their head. Bring them to vet immediately.
