Research shows that parvo in adult dogs is rare due to annual vaccinations. Do not STOP getting your adult dogs vaccinated as Parvo is life threatening and treatment is very expensive.

There are two ways your dog is killed by Parvo. Diarrhea and vomiting leading to fluid loss/dehydration until your dog goes into shock, or your dog becomes septic when the bowel ruptures and the toxins enter the body.

Parvo is treated supportively. This means, there is no pill or medication that kills the virus. The reason treatment is so expensive is because your dog typically needs to be hospitalized with intravenous fluids, anti nausea medications, and antibiotics for any bacterial sepsis. These pups also need nutritional support to keep their bodies from failing. They often will not want to eat and usually are vomiting what they do eat.
