Meet Lily Bat. 🐶🦇

This baby girl was abandoned last week in the jungle with her sister.
A few days ago I gave the first bath to them.

Often, bad nourishment and poor hygiene conditions lead to skin problems, like mange.

Mange is highly contagious to other mammals (us included). I got it myself already twice. And it is something that can take your sleep away, believe me! Almost all dogs I rescue suffer from this disease.

There's a natural, cheap and very effective treatment against mange: the Sulfur soap.
Easy to find, here in the island, you can buy it in most stores and the price is around 50 pesos.
It also kills ticks and fleas. 🙂

We can use it too 👉🏽 For pimples and other skin infections; helps to heal cuts and sores; relieves itchiness; treats dandruff caused by fungi.

🐈‍⬛Did you know that there are much more cats than dogs in people's homes around the world? So, normally, in a household with a dog there's a cat too.

🐈Did you know that cats are trainable?

We tend to give more attention, love, medical care and training to a dog than to a cat.
A cat deserves as much attention and consideration as a dog. They deserve way better than the way we treat them and a better place and role in our lives.

We tend to address the dog's behavior and ignore whatever the cat does or feels.
There are a lot of funny videos on internet with cats and dogs interacting in very inappropriate manners. Videos where some animals are completely panicked, stressed and uncomfortable.
We think it's funny because we are ignorants when it's about cat's and dog's normal behavior.

No injuries doesn't mean it's OK.
No fights doesn't mean it's OK.

A chubby doggy is usually seen as cute and funny. But the issues related with chubbiness aren't. 🐽

Obesity is one of the biggest problems among pets.
It can result in serious adverse effects that could shorten your pet's life span.

Diabetes, heart diseases, cancer and arthritis are some of the major health issues.⚠️

Basically, your overweight dog will get old sooner than normal.

The common causes are:
- overfeeding
- aging
- lack of exercise
- neutering

If your pet is obese, you must change his lifestyle. And changes should be made progressively. Radical changes can cause even more problems.

Obese pets, that started to feel the consequences in their health and do not feel good, have more tendency to display undesirable behavior like aggression or depression.

Aggression is the most common and the most serious behavior problem in dogs. It's also the main reason why pet parents seek professional help.

Walks 🐾

It is important for a pet to have contact with the world outside. I see a lot of owners walking daily their dogs... but they're not really spending time or paying attention to them...

The walking time is the most important moment of the day for a dog.

Owners often use that time to answer to messages or making a video call that they weren't able to make during the day. 🤳📲

Maybe you don't realize how important is the contact with nature and the interaction with us. We are simply everything to them. We are their world.

Try to go for a walk with your dog (minimum 45min), in nature, without your smartphone. Take some treats instead. Play with him, interact with him, observe him. You will understand him much better. Your relationship will improve. The bond will get stronger. His behavior will change, for the better. I promise you.

"Is it bad to feed the dog at the table during our meals?"

This one of the most popular questions among dog owners.

And the answer is: That depends. 😁
All depends on how you're doing it.
This picture is the perfect example of what you should NOT do (and that's not my dog 😁).

Personally, I love to see dogs at the restaurants, and many restaurants do not allow pets inside because most of them don't know how to behave properly.

Never feed or give treats when your dog is begging for it. If you do, you're reinforcing that behavior. So your dog will keep on doing it, because it worked.

If you have a piece of chicken that you really want to share with your dog during your meal, do it when he's not expecting it and he's showing nice manners, for example, if he quietly lays down next to you. That will be the perfect moment.
Or, simply do not give food during the meals to avoid any misunderstanding from your dog.😉

Imagine if you have 9 🐕! Try to imagine the feeding time of 9 dogs without training... crazy, right?!
