“Minsan talaga kelangan maloko para mag grow”

We learned that seeds go into dormancy stage when stored for too long. To increase germination rate, we put the seeds for 2 days in the refrigerator while soaked in water, then proceeded with our usual germination technique. Et voila! 90% sprouted!

The explanation behind it is that we’re tricking the seeds that winter is done and it’s time to spring. Hence, the hugot line...😄

Grateful for this makeshift greenhouse! It has given us a year of bountiful harvests, been with us through the ups & downs of learnings, and taught us that growth can be achieved, even in the smallest beginnings. It’s a goodbye for now. *bittersweet smile* 🙂👋

First time to try bolting...

Spinach and lettuce, intentionally left to grow beyond their harvesting days to produce seeds. 🤞 hope they work 🤞

It’s nice when you see your plants growing well! But sometimes, some of them wilt and eventually die. 😢 It helps when we know the root causes, so we get to save them! 🌱

Possible causes of wilt:

- malnutrition
- too much/less pH
- high temperature
- not enough oxygen (brown roots)
- stress during transplant

Solutions:

✔️ check PPM (between 560-840)
✔️ check pH (between 5.5-6.5)
✔️ add mesh net to lessen direct sunlight during the hottest time of the day/make sure water temperature is less than 30C
✔️ check aeration (add air pump, check distance of roots to water)
✔️ make sure the roots do not break during transplant
