Rotala Macrandra 'Variegated' is an aquatic plant that is quickly distinguishable because of its deep red colors. In the aquascaping world, it is desired for its pulsating and wavy red leaves. Rotala Macrandra 'Variegated' is a native to Southeast Asia and parts of India where it grows naturally on wetlands.

Utricularia graminifolia from Asia belongs to the bladderwort family. All the plants in this family are insect eating, perennial water and marsh plants. In nature, the plant lives in nutrient-poor places, hence the need to catch small insects and digest them.

Bladder traps are a unique feature of this family, which Utricularia graminifolia form after a short period in the aquarium.

The species name means 'with grass like leaves' and the fresh green leaves will after some time form a pretty mat which looks like a lawn (2-8 cm tall).

Utricularia graminifolia is therefore an ideal foreground plant, although it is rather demanding.

Syngonanthus macrocaulon is one of the most dificult plants to keep in an aquarium. It needs highly intensive light (around 1 watt per litre), the addition of CO2 and soft water (GH and KH not over 5). Like Tonina fluviatilis and Syngonanthus sp. 'Manaus', this plant also needs a slightly acidic substrate. Sufficient iron in the water is also very important to maintain its bright green colour.

The vertical growth of S. macrocaulon is moderately fast, as the plant rather applies its energy to the development of lateral shoots. When trimming, it is important to only cut the uppermost 4 cm of the stem to re-plant them in the substrate. Longer cuttings grow roots on the entire lower part of the stem, which looks rather ugly. Short cuttings grow better and look more beautiful in its further development.

Rotala manipurensis like most other Rotala species can grow submerged and emersed. The leaves will be rounded like Rotala Green but under optimum conditions it will develop warm orange tints on the leaves that will give you an intense contrasting plant to the normal green plants.

There are speculation that this plant originated in the state Manipur in north-eastern India and is actually a form of Rotala rotundifolia.

Plant them as a background plant for optimum effect, but you can use them a mid-ground plant if you trim them regularly.

Dinuguang Maria MERON!

Bloody Mary Available!

The Bloody Mary Shrimp (Neocaridina davidi) boasts the deepest red coloration of all dwarf shrimp, even more so than the Painted Fire Red Shrimp. It appears to have a clear exoskeleton with blood red tissue underneath in both males and females. We have yet to see one that is not 100% blood red!

Care for this shrimp is identical to all varieties of Cherry, Neon Yellow, Blue Velvet, Sapphire, Blue/Black Diamond, Chocolate, Snowball, and Rili shrimp. It is comparably durable as well.

This shrimp is a scavenger and is very useful in planted and nano aquariums. The bulk of its diet is biofilm, algae, and decaying plant matter so it will work diligently to clean up the waste in any aquarium. It feeds constantly, so it displays constant activity. In a less mature aquarium, it should be fed high quality flake and mini pellet dry foods with high algae/spirulina/plant content.

What We Like About This Shrimp:
Deepest red coloration of all dwarf shrimp varieties
Completely peaceful with all non-aggressive tankmates
Safe with all plants
Excellent scavenger

RECOMMENDED TANK PARAMETERS:
Temperature: 64° - 84° F (17.8° - 28.8° C)
pH: 6.8 - 7.5
KH: 0 - 10 dKH
Minimum tank size: 2 gallons

CARE GUIDELINES:
Diet: Scavenger that feeds continually. Requires very little feeding in a well-established aquarium containing algae, biofilm, or decaying plant matter. In less mature aquariums, high quality dry foods with high plant content can be fed multiple times daily. Our Spirulina flakes and BacterAE make excellent staple food products for these shrimp.
Social behavior: Peaceful. A small group can continually replenish and grow its population
Origin: Tank-bred , but wild populations indigenous to Taiwan
Average adult size: 1 - 1.5 inches (2.5 - 3.8 cm)
Average purchase size: 1/2 - 1 inch (1.3 - 2.5 cm)
