Summer time , ABO!!!
It's the time of the annual reminder and yes you might get tired of reading but you might be able to help and prevent or rescue so please read 🙏
Don't be confident, even the veterans still suffer from heatstroke their dogs.
Preventing heatstroke and what to do during heatstroke topic tayo.
PREVENT HEATSTROKE:
1. Diet!! Don't panic, the dog is on diet not you. 😂 it's hotter in their body when they are bulked up so it helps to avoid overheat if they are not fat during summer.
2. This is common sense but there are still clumsy things - NO WALK / ACTIVITY AND NO STUD SESSION during the hot weather. Between 10 am to 5 pm or even as early as 9 am depending on the heat.
P.S. if you will let the dog walk in the cement, try to step on the cement with bare feet if you can. If not, her paw pads are more sensitive and many are getting burned because of that.
3. Ventilation. Especially if you know his area is hot, put a barrier and an electric fan on it. If you can't afford a regular aircon, don't try that sometimes there is no aircon, especially if it's for pictorial or visitors, it's just a purpose to use aircon 🙄 Especially them, it's hard to cope when it's too hot.
4. Always, always provide clean water 24/7. If you can't put ice everyday when it's hot, don't get used to that system. The more you overheat on the day that you can't provide what you are used to cool down. Not just when you just tripped or there's too much ice in the drinking session.
5. Pregnant dogs, let's be double careful. So many were captured especially when it's near due date already. You made her pregnant, I mean you made her pregnant 😅 let's make extra effort. Highly suggest every day wipe down their bodies with wet bimpo especially chest, armpit, paws, face.

DURING HEATSTROKE :
So okay heatstroke, you caught wheezing, changing color of the tongue, unresponsive or confused, thick saliva - that's happening. Please be calm and ONLY YOU can save your dog at that moment.
1. Remain calm but hurry. FIRST AID can rescue him first, not a vet. Be sure before you run for a vet, apply proper first aid otherwise it will be given in transit or when it comes to organ failure and too late.
2. Do not crowd the dog. Some people are all over the barangay, they suddenly turn around the dog and their immediate area is getting hotter. STAY AWAY to the explorers. just one person or two maximum will take care of him.
3. NEVER DO RAPID COOLDOWN. some thought it was torture to admit the dog but they said it will sink it in a bucket with ice 😑😑 the temperature is slowly decreasing.
4. Alcohol and lemon / calamansi should always be on hand. Alcohol wet the paws, chest, armpits of alcohol and watch the electric fan. That is a combo. We won't just drown in alcohol but we don't have a fan, we don't kill germs. The logic is that cool air boosts alcohol in the cold, right? Let's put calamansi in the mouth after removing the thick saliva, pull it in the mouth to remove the saliva but don't choke. Swift swipe only to remove and done.
5. NO WATER PLEASE. Some people can't differentiate when to be given a drink or not. When it's WHEEZING already, and it's already a heatstroke, this is not the right time to drink. Wheezing, when the sound of breathing and tendency when drinking is getting thinner, the water is directly to the lungs, not to the stomach. You'll kill that dog first in the drowning than in the heat. Let it calm down first.
6. Usually dogs are also stressed during this time, different straight to cardiac arrest because they are also afraid of what is happening to them. Please calm them down and talk to them, rub their backs to stimulate normal breathing and calm.
7. Let's not make the heat go cold. I saw someone giving advice to wrap it with a wet towel. Let's not make it shawarma. The body heat that is coming out is just crumpled, so we owe you a debt, let's not give advice without sure.
8. Especially if you're disoriented for a long time even if you've stopped breathing, or if your nose bleeds, gums or vomits with blood, please bring it to the vet even if you think it's normal. Heatstroke can cause organ failure and there should still be a cure and a cure. It doesn't mean it's not breathing e it's safe.
Please feel free to add to this list. Let's strive to survive them in the heat wave every year. It's sad to see that yearly so many dogs die because of heat. Let's be extra careful. Let's aim for lower or zero casualties, ABBU. ❤
