Vaccinate your pets against Rabies!

is here, and we are calling time on rabies.

Rabies is one of the world's deadliest and oldest known diseases. A disease so dangerous that once symptoms show, it is already too late. Death is inevitable. It's haunted people for millennia, and despite being vaccine-preventable, it still causes unimaginable pain and suffering today.

𝘉𝘶𝘵, 𝘳𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦.

Through large-scale action, we can stop children dying from this entirely preventable disease and protect the countless thousands of dogs that die from rabies each year.

Dogs are one of the animals most prone to rabies and 99% of all human rabies deaths are caused by an infected dog bite. This is why we are tackling the disease at its source. By vaccinating dogs against rabies, we are creating healthier dog populations – and if the dogs are not catching rabies, they cannot spread it to the people they live alongside.

By working together, we can make this the Final Rabies Generation!

😘. Head rubbing - sometimes known as butting or bunting - is a behavior cats learn as kittens with their mother. It’s an affectionate gesture that can also be used as a form of greeting and marking you with their scent in a show of affiliation and to build a connection with you.⁣

Cats have scent glands located in their cheeks, forehead and chins so they use this adorable technique to get information about the new people they meet, and to invite you into their group.⁣

As an emergency vet, when a patient comes into the hospital it’s usually the first time we meet, so it was nice that this kitty gave me his seal (or should that be kitty) of approval 🐈 😊

Knowledge is power.

If you have a breed that has a higher risk of developing cancer, please be sure to watch for early warning signs.

Signs can include – changes in behavior, unexplained swelling, lumps, bumps, persistent lameness, and unusual vomiting or diarrhea.

And just because you have a lower-risk pet, it still pays to be vigilant. Early detection can save lives.

Please note: This is not an exhaustive list of breeds or signs of cancer. If you are concerned about your pet, please visit your local vet.

Declawing: A Procedure That Brings Lifelong Pain to Cats 💔

Declawing is not just a “permanent nail trim” — it’s a mutilating procedure that involves amputating the last bone of each toe, severing tendons, nerves and ligament, putting a cat at risk for chronic pain and behavioral abnormalities for the rest of their life. 😿

"Heads Up Pet Parents if You're Feeding Your Pets Store-bought Jerky Treats!!⚠️

( )

A new veterinary study published in the journal of Tierärztliche Praxis found that dogs are still developing a kidney disorder called Fanconi-like syndrome when fed pet jerky treats.

Fanconi is a disorder of kidney function that results in excess excretion of glucose, electrolytes and amino acids in urine. Signs of the illness included decreased appetite, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, polydipsia and polyuria.

This new study isn't actually new news to veterinarians, in 2007, veterinarians became aware of Fanconi-like signs in multiple other dog breeds without a recognized genetic predisposition, and alerted the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, prompting an investigation. The chief suspect then was found to be commercial jerky treats.

As of today, the FDA has received approximately 5,200 complaints of illnesses associated with consumption of chicken🍗, duck🦆, or sweet potato🍠 jerky treats. The reports involve more than 6,200 dogs, 26 cats, three people, and include more than 1,140 canine deaths." - Rodney Habib

If you want to learn more about potentially dangerous pet treats, and/or ingredients you should look out for when purchasing pet food (as well as all the DIY real food snacks your dogs will love), our new book called The Forever Dog is packed with surprising new science that will help your dog live healthier, happier, and longer.
