WHAT IS MMDA K-9 CORPS?
MMDA K-9 Corps is an auxilliary volunteer arm of the Metropolitan Metro Manila Development Authority composed of non-government personnel and individuals.
WHAT IS CANINE SEARCH TEAM (CST) Training Program?
The CST Training Program is a multi-level training for qualified and interested volunteers willing to undergo a series of high-level training for disaster deployment.
HOW MUCH IS THE TRAINING FEE?
TRAINING IS FREE! However, we screen and qualify applicants prior to acceptance in the training program.
IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT FOR HANDLERS?
None. As long as you are fit and have the heart to volunteer. Minors are only allowed with supervision of a guardian.
IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT FOR CANINES?
The CST Training Program requires months and months of training. We make sure that our dogs train regularly for at least 2 years to prepare them for deployment. The most suitable dogs to train are at their most curious stage of 2 months up to 2 years old.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO JOIN?
For the safety of all dogs participating in the CST Training Program, we require fully vaccinated dogs.
Handlers must be of tip-top shape to participate in our training.
WHAT ARE THE MOST QUALIFIED BREEDS FOR THE PROGRAM?
A well-trained SAR dog is a sight to behold. Although working dog breeds are preferred (German Shepherd Dog, Beagles, Jack Russell Terier, Belgian Shepherds, Border Collies, Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, Dutch Shepherds, Dobberman), other breeds can have the ability as long as they fit the requirement of stable temperament, trainability, high drive, and focus. Handler / Owner of ASPINS are highly encouraged to apply.
HOW LONG IS THE TRAINING?
Training a Search and Rescue Team (handler and canine) is a continuing education that requires commitment, stamina, perseverance, and an ability to help the community in times of disasters.
WHEN AND WHERE ARE TRAININGS HELD?
Our trainings are held every Sunday morning at the MMDA K-9 Corps training facility in Napindan, Makati City. However, only registered and qualified applicants are allowed to attend.
Some instances, outdoor exercises and off site trainings are required under a particular set of conditions.
WHEN IS THE NEXT VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION?
Our next volunteer registration is in the first quarter of 2024.
