Rosie is progressing remarkably well, now ten days after her fracture repair surgery.
The owner recently shared a delightful video update with us while they are staying in Mati City, showcasing Rosie’s recovery and joyful spirit.
It’s truly heartwarming to witness how our patients thrive after returning home, and this glimpse into Rosie’s journey fills us with happiness and pride in the care we provide.

Lumbosacral stenosis, also known as cauda equina syndrome in dogs, involves compression of the spinal nerves in the lumbosacral region. This condition is often seen in large breed dogs, such as German Shepherds, and can cause back pain, hind limb weakness, and difficulty walking. Epidural steroid injections can be a therapeutic option to reduce inflammation and manage pain in affected dogs.
• Blood tests may be performed to ensure the dog is a good candidate for the procedure.
Anesthesia
• General anesthesia or heavy sedation is administered to ensure the dog remains still and comfortable during the procedure.
Sterile Preparation
• The lower back is clipped and cleaned with an antiseptic solution to prevent infection.
Needle Insertion
• A spinal needle is carefully advanced into the epidural space of the lumbosacral region. Fluoroscopy (real-time X-ray) or ultrasound is often used to guide the needle and ensure precise placement.
Injection
• A corticosteroid (such as methylprednisolone or dexamethasone) is injected into the epidural space.
• In some cases, a local anesthetic may be included to provide immediate pain relief.
Post-Procedure Monitoring
• The dog is monitored until it fully recovers from anesthesia.
• Owners are advised on activity restrictions and signs of potential complications.
Expected Benefits
• Reduction in pain and inflammation around the compressed nerves.
• Improved mobility and quality of life.
• May delay or avoid the need for surgical intervention.
When is This Procedure Appropriate for Dogs?
Epidural steroid injections are suitable for dogs with:
• Severe pain that does not respond to oral medications or conservative management.
• Imaging-confirmed lumbosacral stenosis causing nerve compression.
• Owners seeking to avoid or postpone surgery.

Durian seed foreign body removal from a labrador puppy.
The patient was presented with history of vomiting for about 1 week and went to other practice for first treatment but not better.
We did a workup and imaging through ultrasound and found to have an obstruction at the level of caudal duodenum to jejunum.
Exploratory laparotomy surgery and enterotomy was performed to save the life of the pup.
The video below shows the severe damage of the intestines due to the dilation and nearly ruptured. The removal of the fbo/durian seed is appreciated at the video.
The puppy is now recovering at our ICU and is monitored closely.

Cookie came back for a review 1 week post surgery of the left radioulnar fracture.
As seen in the video, she was using her leg with mild degree of lameness as expected. But it is expected to get better in 4 weeks without complications.
Cookie’s owner said that she is doing zoomies now. The team cautioned the owner to have limited and restricted walks for now with low impact exercise for the bone to heal.
