Hello Guys, hi everyone...this page was created by me and a good friend named Keith in February 2014. With my impending retirement from the teaching profession in mind, I envisioned a life of sustainability away from the energy and water grid. I was able to purchase a small lot, about 1,500 sq.m which I plan to develop into a forest food chain, permaculture, organic and natural farming etc and wha
tever farming system that is basically friendly to the environment and that which would benefit humans and animals that inhabit the surrounding areas. However, I was diagnosed with cancer by the end of 2014, and was also teaching full time at the time, and after recovery from surgery I allotted more time to family affairs. (single mom for 20 years with 4 grown up kids)
Basically, I have not done any major start ups in my place, except building a small farmhouse in 2016. there were 123 trees planted in that small area and the sun is being blocked by the thick foliage. The type of soil in the area is clay which posed another problem. And then the pandemic came. So, guys, most of the post that you see in this page are re-posts or articles/content lifted from their original sources. I've been searching a lot during the covid season and I thought these content might help you too in your endeavors. I haven't posted yet about any progress in my "sustainable....page" as I have been slowly incorporating soil amendments and experimenting on plants that would thrive in this particular type of soil. I recently just installed my rain harvesting system connected to my toilet and bath and a pipe to the kitchen. Mostly, I collect rainwater in barrels for laundry and other needs. I have partnered with someone and started raising chickens (Rhode Island Red breed) in January last year so I could have some source of meat and eggs. I have been composting fallen leaves, kitchen waste, mixing charcoal and ash, plus rice hull, chicken and cow manure as planting medium in small pots. I have also experimented on 2 raised beds, but not quite successful because I have placed it on a shaded area. So I started anew in a sunny spot. I don't intend to monetize this page at all, just sharing and hoping to get insights from your own experiences as well. This is such a lengthy first update...anywyz, I'd like to thank all of you who liked and is following this page. See you around...
