Yes, it’s possible to go on a trip with a dog on a fresh food diet. Just means the humans will need to make do with pre-cooked frozen ulams or canned goods because half our cooler was Spencer’s food 😂😂😂

Happy New Year, everyone!
Prepare your dogs for the inevitable noise barrage by tiring them out, feeding them early, preparing a safe space for them to hide in, using calming oils or medications, and just being there for them whether they wanted hugs or not.
Tony was deathly afraid of fireworks and would spend of the evening either frozen stiff or scurrying back and forth. Things got a little better as he got older and the entire family was on board in keeping him occupied or hidden.
Kelly couldn’t have cared less and would angrily bark at every artillery barrage 😂
This will be Spencer’s first NYE and so far, he isn’t bothered by the random firecracker (as a pup, he stood on top of me, legs wide apart, and growled at the fireworks fiesta nearby 😂). Here’s to hoping it will be an uneventful NYE for us but we’ll be preparing by:
1.) several leisurely walks throughout the day to slowly tire him out
2.) feed him a heavier dinner than usual in the hopes it will make him sleepy
3.) prepare treats all around the house and brief all guests that they can give to him during a barrage
4.) prepare a room upstairs, curtains closed, AC on, light music playing should he rather hide
5.) prepare lavender scents to keep him calm
The CCP family thanks you all for being with all these years, especially through the pandemic. We may have lost our original board members in 2021 (Kelly) and 2022 (Tuco, Tony, Cooper) but we hope that Spencer will be a good new boss to us all.

CANINE CHOW PH PHILOSOPHY
We believe that dogs are primarily carnivores.
Dogs will THRIVE on a meat-based diet as opposed to merely surviving on an omnivorous diet. Dogs do better when provided with quality animal-based proteins and fats.

We use only human-grade meats and vegetables. What we cook for our dogs is good enough for humans to eat (yes, we’ve tried it!). We don't use any seasonings or preservatives - not even salt. We buy our meats from the grocery and from butchers who provide us nutritious cuts such as heart, lungs, and kidneys.

We also believe in "balance over time".
We recommend that our clients provide at least 3-4 protein sources within a week (beef, chicken, pork, fish with extras such as plain yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, etc.)

We prefer not to add high glycemic and starchy carbohydrates.
We do not use vegetables such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, rice, etc. This is a personal choice that Canine Chow PH has made after doing our own research and following the philosophy that we believe that dogs are primarily carnivores.

Instead, we use low glycemic vegetables such as kangkong, malunggay, pechay, and cabbage primarily as fiber to help form stool. In a true canine ancestral diet, the fiber source would be soft raw bones. But since we provide a cooked diet, we cannot include cooked bones.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW DO YOU COOK YOUR FOOD? We use very low heat to preserve as many nutrients as possible. We do not add any liquids nor do we use preservatives (not even salt). After cooking and let the food cool, we freeze them for 12-24 hours before delivery.

HOW DO I STORE YOUR FOOD? 3 to 4 days in the ref, thawed and 3 weeks to a month in the freezer

HOW MUCH DO I FEED MY DOG PER DAY? Depending on your dog’s weight, activity level, and condition, this can be anywhere from 1.5% to 4% of your dog’s target weight. The bigger your dog, the lower the multiplier.

Example: my dog Tony is 26kg. 26kg x 2% = .52kg or 520g per day or 260g per meal. If your dog looks like he’s getting a little chunky, then cut back. If he still looks a little thin, then add a little more.

HOW MANY TIMES DO I FEED MY DOG? Depends on your dog’s activity level, access to a potty area, and your dog’s weight/size. It is recommended that adult toy and small dogs are fed at least three times a day to keep their blood sugar levels even and avoid hypoglycemia. Medium, large, and giant adult dogs can be fed twice a day.

HOW LONG DOES A KILO LAST? When you know how much you need to feed your dog, you can then calculate how long a kilo of food will last.

Example: my dog is 26kg. He needs to eat 520g per day/260g per meal. 1kilo divided by 520g = 1.9 days or 3.8 meals

DO I NEED TO ADD SUPPLEMENTS? A dog on a 100% home-cooked diet will need to have supplements : vitamins B complex, C, D3, E, fish oil, and calcium. Others might be necessary depending on the health or medical condition such as glucosamine for arthritis. These are calculated for you once you order. Dogs on a 50% home-cooked and 50% commercial kibble diet will need only fish oil and vitamin E. Again, these will be calculated for you once you order.

This year — which was a crazy year of ups and downs, wins and losses, sunshiney blue eyes and crazy dark skies — we will quietly spend in our homes thinking of all of you.

Hello, everybody! My human slave has regained a bit of her physical and mental well-being from her two week break. We’re back to normal operations. Just a few notes:
1.) Mondays 5pm: cut off to place orders via email
2.) Tuesdays to Thursdays: cooking days
3.) Saturdays: deliveries (no more Friday deliveries because Tony has therapy)
My human will be taking a step back from cooking operations. She won’t be going to the commissary kitchen except to open and close up shop. I told her that I need her 24/7.
We thank you all for being so kind during our break. Tony still has a few health issues but we hope phase 2.2 of his therapy will show more improvement.

Tony had his second laser therapy and first electric muscle stimulation therapy last Friday. Today, we did ultrasound supersonic therapy and warm compress.
We will be doing this during our two week break. We have an assessment on Sept 5, Monday.

Dear Canine Chow Family,
Thank you so much for rallying behind Tony by letting us suddenly change delivery schedules and cut off dates.
Our orthopedic specialist, Dr. Aris Hapatinga, has prescribed weekly injections of depo medrol for at least one month in the hopes of really bringing down the swelling on his spine.
In line with this, we will be moving all Friday deliveries and pick ups to Saturday until further notice.
Again, we apologize for any inconvenience this might cause you and our many thanks for this kind consideration.
PS He’s not in any pain. His appetite is amazing and he can p*e and p**p on his own (we’re no longer using a urinary catheter nor laxatives).

Dear Crazy Dog Person, As you may have seen in our recent posts, one of our Canine Masters, Tony, has been needing special care. He is 12 years old and will be going through several veterinary treatments and therapies the next few weeks. As much as we would love to continue our weekly Canine Chow activities, our kitchen staff (me and Leah) need some physical, mental, and emotional break, so we could focus on providing Tony with the best care he deserves. Due to this, we will be suspending operations for the next two weeks, from 22 August until 04 September. In line with this, we now use, in rotation, seasonal veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, cabbage, pechay, and wombok. .
