Today, the 26th of August, Dog International Day is a celebration dedicated to recognize and appreciate the companionship, loyalty, and importance of dogs. Observed on various dates globally, this day allows us to honor the incredible bond between humans and dogs and shed light on various issues related to their well-being.

1.......... Dogs have been our faithful companions for thousands of years, serving multiple roles such as hunting partners and guardians. On Dog International Day, we acknowledge their unconditional love and the positive impact they have on our physical and mental well-being.

2.......... This day also brings attention to important issues concerning the treatment and welfare of dogs worldwide. While many dogs are fortunate to have loving homes and caring owners, there are countless others who suffer from abuse, neglect, homelessness, and abandonment. Dog International Day serves as a reminder to advocate for their rights and work towards ending cruelty towards these intelligent and sensitive creatures.

3.......... To celebrate Dog International Day, various activities can be organized to promote responsible dog ownership and raise awareness. These may include adopting a dog from a local shelter, organizing vaccination and spay/neuter drives, hosting events to educate the public about dog care and training, or even fostering homeless dogs.

4.......... We must also emphasize the importance of proper training, socialization, and regular veterinary care for dogs. By educating owners about the best practices regarding their care, we can ensure that dogs live happy, healthy lives.

5.......... Additionally, Dog International Day highlights the remarkable work performed by service dogs around the world. These highly trained canines assist people with disabilities, provide emotional support, and even sniff out drugs, explosives, and missing persons. It is crucial to appreciate and support organizations that train and provide service dogs to those in need.

6.......... Moreover, the day encourages us to consider adopting a dog rather than purchasing one from a pet store. Shelters are often inundated with abandoned or stray dogs, and providing a loving home to one of these animals can make a significant difference in their lives.

7.......... Hence, Dog International Day serves as a reminder to cherish, protect, and respect dogs and their impact on our lives. It is an opportunity to advocate for their well-being, raise awareness about responsible pet ownership, and take action to address the issues they face. By giving our furry companions the love and care they deserve, we can truly celebrate the bond between humans and dogs on this special day.

๐Ÿ”ฎ Cats are domesticated mammals that belong to the family Felidae and are often kept as pets. They come in various breeds, sizes, and coat patterns, ranging from the majestic Maine C**n to the sleek Siamese. Cats are known for their agility, gracefulness, and independent nature.
๐Ÿ”ฎ One unique aspect of cats is their exceptional ability to self-groom using their tongues, which helps keep their fur clean and well-maintained. They have flexible bodies, sharp retractable claws, and keen senses, making them skilled hunters.
๐Ÿ”ฎ Cats are known for their nurturing behavior towards their young ones and form strong bonds with their human companions. They communicate through various vocalizations, body language, and purring, which can denote different emotions or needs.
๐Ÿ”ฎ Cats have a diverse diet, primarily consisting of meat, and they are obligate carnivores, meaning they rely on animal-based proteins for their nutritional needs. They are known for their hunting skills, whether it's capturing prey or chasing after toys.
๐Ÿ”ฎ As pets, cats provide companionship and can bring joy and comfort to their owners. They are relatively low-maintenance compared to other pets, with their independent nature and ability to litter train. However, they still require proper care, including regular veterinary check-ups, a balanced diet, and a safe and stimulating environment to thrive.
๐Ÿ”ฎ Generally, cats are fascinating creatures, each with their unique personalities and quirks, making them beloved pets for many people around the world.

๐Ÿˆ The cat, a graceful and mysterious creature, possesses a fascinating skeletal structure that supports its agile movements and predatory nature.
The skeleton of a cat is primarily composed of bones, which serve as the framework for its body. The cat's skeleton consists of approximately 250 bones, providing structure, protection, and locomotion. It plays a crucial role in defining the cat's overall shape and enabling its remarkable flexibility.
๐Ÿˆ One notable feature of a cat's skeleton is its compactness and streamlined design. This enables the cat to move swiftly and easily through various environments, whether it be stalking prey or leaping with precision. The skeleton's adaptability is attributed to its numerous fused bones, providing strength and stability.
๐Ÿˆ As we observe the cat's skeleton, we notice its elongated vertebral column, consisting of more than 30 vertebrae. This flexible backbone allows the cat to arch its back, crawl through tight spaces, and exhibit the infamous "Halloween cat" posture. The lumbar and thoracic regions of the spine contain additional vertebrae, granting the cat the ability to attain a wide range of movements and pounce with incredible force.
๐Ÿˆ The cat's ribcage is another prominent feature of its skeleton. It serves as a protective enclosure for vital organs like the heart and lungs. Interestingly, the cat boasts a distinct number of ribs, usually ranging between 20 and 24 pairs, varying based on breed and individual genetics.
๐Ÿˆ At the core of a cat's forelimb lies the scapula, which connects the front limb to the axial skeleton. Attached to the scapula, we encounter the long bones of the upper limb, including the humerus, radius, and ulna. The ulna, smaller compared to the radius, aids in granting flexibility and agility to the feline.
๐Ÿˆ Uniquely, a cat's paw consists of five digits, four of which bear sharp, retractable claws designed for grasping and capturing prey. The structure of these claws is supported by the phalanges, small bones in the toes. Additionally, the hindlimbs mirror the forelimbs in structure, permitting the cat to achieve exceptional balance and grace.
๐Ÿˆ The skeleton of a cat showcases an intricately designed framework that empowers their stealthy nature and impressive physical abilities. From their flexible vertebral column to their lean limbs and specialized paws, every element of the cat's skeleton is tailored to ensure their survival and prowess as skilled hunters.

Vaccines are available at/in Khyber PETS Clinic

The importance of vaccination in pets cannot be overstated. Vaccinations play a crucial role in keeping our pets healthy and protected from various diseases. Here are some reasons regarding the importance of vaccination:

: Vaccinations are designed to prevent or reduce the severity of specific diseases in animals. By vaccinating our pets, we help build their immunity against harmful pathogens, such as viruses and bacteria, that can cause serious illnesses.

: Vaccinations significantly contribute to the longevity and overall well-being of our pets. They help protect against diseases that can be debilitating or even fatal. By keeping our pets vaccinated, we increase their chances of living a happy and healthy life.

: Some diseases that affect animals can also be transmitted to humans (zoonotic diseases). Vaccinating pets not only protects them but also helps prevent the spread of such diseases to humans. It is essential for both the safety of our pets and the public health.

: In many countries, certain vaccinations are legally required for pets. These vaccinations are necessary to control the spread of highly infectious diseases, protect the pet population, and ensure public safety.

: Vaccinating our pets gives us peace of mind, knowing that we have taken proactive measures to safeguard their health. Regular vaccinations provide a strong defense against preventable diseases, reducing the risk of potential health complications and expensive medical treatments.

Remember, different pets require different vaccinations based on factors such as their species, age, lifestyle, and local disease prevalence. Consulting with a veterinarian is crucial to determine the appropriate vaccination schedule for your pet. Vaccinations are an integral part of responsible pet ownership and are vital in keeping our beloved companions healthy and protected.

Canine parvovirus infection (CPV), is a highly contagious (discovered in 1970s) and potentially life-threatening illness having a serious significant threat to dogs.
: The primary etiology of parvo disease is the canine parvovirus, which spreads through direct contact with infected dogs or their f***s. Additionally, the virus can persist in the environment for months, making it highly durable and challenging to eliminate. Puppies and unvaccinated dogs are particularly vulnerable to the said disease because their immune systems are still developing.
: Parvo disease manifests itself through a range of distressing symptoms. The most common signs include severe diarrhea, often accompanied by blood, vomiting, loss of appetite, dehydration, and lethargy. Dogs with parvo may also exhibit a high fever, abdominal pain, and a weak immune system, making them susceptible to secondary infections.
: Preventing parvo is crucial in maintaining the health and well-being of dogs. Vaccination is the most effective preventive measure, with puppies typically receiving their first vaccination between six and eight weeks of age. Following the initial dose, booster shots are required at regular intervals to ensure continued protection. Additionally, practicing good hygiene, such as cleaning and disinfecting surfaces are helpful to reduce the risk of transmission.
: When a dog is diagnosed with parvo, prompt veterinary care is essential. Treatment typically involves aggressive supportive care to manage symptoms and prevent complications. This includes intravenous fluids to combat dehydration, medications to control vomiting and diarrhea, antibiotics to prevent secondary infections, and nutritional support to maintain vital body functions. In severe cases, hospitalization may be necessary.

: Cat Scratch disease (CSD) is a cutaneous and systemic bacterial zoonotic disease that is carried in cats and affects humans. The disease spreads when an infected cat licks a personโ€™s open wound, or bites or scratches a person hard enough to break the surface of the skin.
: Bartonella henselae, a thin Gram-negative slightly curved rod shaped bacteria and is a member of the family Bartonellaceae, which was formerly classified in the order Rickettsiales.
: Domestic cats are the natural reservoir and vectors of B henselae. In cats, B henselae infection is asymptomatic. Fleas are believed to transmit the bacteria between cats, and seroprevalence in cats is highest in warm/humid climates due to flea infestation.
: B. henselae infection is transmitted cat-to-cat and cat-to-human by fleas that have fed on infected cats. Cats infected with B. henselae often have persistent bacteremia in high levels. When a flea feeds on an infected cat, viable bacteria are ingested and excreted in the flea f***s. When these infective flea f***s contact a break in n the skin, either on an uninfected cat or a human, the bacteria can enter and cause infection. Thus, a cat with both B. henselae bacteremia and fleas is necessary for a human to become infected with cat-scratch disease. However, cat scratch is not a requirement for development of the disease; any break in the skin that becomes contaminated with infective flea f***s can serve as the inoculation site for B. henselae and may result in infection.

It causes no clinical signs in cats and infection is common, especially in kittens. In humans infection causes cat scratch disease with signs developing 1 to 3 weeks after the scratch or bite of a cat. In some cases, a small skin lesion which progresses to an ulcer and then heals is visible at the site of inoculation. Other signs include lymphadenitis and systemic signs such as fever, malaise and headaches. Usually the condition resolves without treatment but complications may occur. Bartonella henselae causes bacillary angiomatosis in immunocompromised individuals. This condition requires treatment with prolonged courses of antimicrobial therapy.

Most cases of cat-scratch disease are asymptomatic or so mild as to be unrecognized. When clinical disease does develop, it usually presents as a regional lymphadenopathy 3 to 14 days after dermal inoculation of the infectious agent. Low-grade fever, myalgia, and general malaise often occur, and a papular lesion sometimes develops at the site of inoculation. Lymph nodes affected usually are those proximal to the inoculation site; often they are very painful but rarely suppurate. In more than 90% of patients with clinical illness, cat-scratch disease follows a mil d course and resolves spontaneously, although symptoms can persist for up to 2 months. Complications are rare, and the case-fatality rate is almost nonexistent.

Common sense and careful attention to hygiene are very much helpful i.e. washing hands after handling cats. Avoid cat bites and scratches, and thoroughly wash with soap and water any scratches that do occur. Likewise, prevent cats from licking or coming in contact with any break in the skin; keep wounds covered until healed as it may lead to cat scratch fever or infection.

โ€ข Do not play rough with your pets because they may scratch and bite.
โ€ข Restriction of cats to lick your open wounds.
โ€ข Wash cat bites and scratches well with soap and running water.
โ€ข Do not allow cats to lick your wounds.
โ€ข Wash cat bites and scratches right away with soap and running water.
โ€ข Wash your hands with soap and running water after playing with your cat.
โ€ข Contact the doctor, if there are any symptoms of cat-scratch disease or infection.
โ€ข Since cats less than one year of age are more likely to have CSD and spread it to people, persons with a weakened immune system should adopt cats older than one year of age.

โ€ข Schedule routine veterinary health check-ups.
โ€ข Keep cats indoors to decrease their contact with fleas
โ€ข Prevent cats from stray animals.
โ€ข Keep your catโ€™s nails trimmed.
โ€ข Apply a flea product once a month.
โ€ข Comb on cat to inspect flea dirt.
โ€ข Control fleas by vacuuming.
โ€ข Pest-control agent if necessary.
