Scarlet is a 4 years old German shepherd Dog, He is so gentle and timid.

His owner noticed that his left ear is completely swollen and hot. He has what is called an aural hematoma, where blood vessels in the ear burst and the ear flap fills up with blood. It is extremely painful for the poor dog.

Our vets performed scarlet's surgery, Now he's way better Alhumdulillah

happens when the dog scratch or shake its head too much due to itchiness of the ear. The blood vessels on the earflap break and bleed producing blood clots that cause the ear flap or pinna to swell (like in the picture).

This might not be an emergency case but this causes pain, irritation and anxiety to the dog. Affected ear when not drained or treated will shrink like that of a chicharon.

Simple syringe aspiration can be done if the swelling is just small.

Aural hematomas, this extensive, needs surgical drainage, to remove the content of the ear flap and the blood clots.
