Routine dental care is essential to your horse's health. Periodic examinations and regular maintenance, such as floating, are especially necessary today for a number of reasons.

Signs that a horse may need to have its teeth examined and treated include avoiding grain, dropping feed while chewing, feed retention, foul smell in the oral cavity, feed refusal and continuous nasal discharge etc.

For more information about equine problems feel free to contact with us.

Pastern dermatitis is the name for a skin reaction that can have a variety of causes. Most commonly the area affected is the back of the pasterns and heels but sometimes the inflammation can extend up the entire lower limb. White-haired areas seems to be more commonly affected than dark-haired areas. The appearance is of scabby oozing lesions on the skin, sometimes forming thick crusts. The skin when cleaned off has the bright pink appearance of inflammation and sometimes has ulcerated areas. In chronic cases the skin can become thickened and plaque-like.  This condition is very painful for the horse, and can cause lameness in some cases.

>Nerve blocks, the correct term being diagnostic anaesthesia, are used daily by equine practitioners to accurately determine the site of pain in lame horses. Occasionally, the site of pain may be immediately obvious with localised signs of heat, pain on palpation and swelling of the affected area. Unfortunately, these indicating signs are often absent in the lame horse.
>>The aim of a lameness investigation is to provide a thorough, systematic clinical examination and diagnostic anaesthesia to identify the source of pain. Imaging can then be used in the form of radiography, ultrasonography, gamma scintigraphy, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to identify the lesion and determine the most appropriate treatment plan.
>>>Nerve blocks work by injecting local anaesthetic around the nerves which supply sensation to the limb.
>>>>The local anaesthetic prevents conduction of impulses along the nerve fibre so that the horse is no longer able to feel the source of pain.

:
is a common problem in horses of all ages and types. It can be frustrating, expensive and time-consuming trying to get to the bottom of the problem.
Unfortunately horses, unlike people, cannot tell us the source of pain; hence the need for a variety of diagnostic tests accompanied by often multiple imaging modalities in order for an appropriate , plan and to be made.

Case:
>Colic refers to the clinical signs or symptoms associated with abdominal pain in horses . Pain usually results from distension of some part of gastrointestinal tract due to an obstruction, or an acute anatomic GI tract displacement.
The incidence of colic has been estimated to be from 4-10% over a horse's lifetime. Often the specific causes of a bout of colic remain unknown, with many individual painful episodes often being transient and with the horse recovering fully. But any case of colic should be taken seriously, as colic is likely the most common cause of premature death in horses. Careful monitoring of any horse with colic is required to determine whether the cause is more serious, potentially requiring surgery.

>> : Gastric reflux occurs when there is a blockage in the bowel (usually the small intestine) that causes the build up of fluid in front of it. Unlike other species the horse can't vomit and the stomach can rupture due to build up of fluid. The presence of gastric reflux is often a major indicator for surgery.

>>> **al_Palpation: Re**al palpation is one of the most useful diagnostic tests performed when evaluating horses with colic. A through knowledge of gross anatomical landmarks and familiarity with normal character of the viscera are important for determining the cause of colic.

>Abdominal Ultrasound
>> Left Liver lobe with distended duedenum and Right ventral Colon

> You should communicate with a certified equine veterinarian before administration of any drugs and Vet will know better about the case after physical exam , gastric reflux , re**al palpation and ultrasounography . How to treat and manages the cases of colic .

Case: Carpal Hygroma
A carpal hygroma is a swelling or capsule in or near the knee filled with fluid caused by some kind of repeated trauma such as hitting knees on a fence or other hard objects. This is sometimes referred to as water on the knee because of the fluid and the fact that it is on the knee. While this swelling is usually painless, it can become large enough to cause lameness or pain. It is also possible for a carpal hygroma to become infected, so it should be treated whenever possible. There are several conditions that can be mistaken for carpal hygroma so it is best to get your horse seen by an equine veterinarian as soon as possible.

Case: Injury of median suspensory ligament
Currently,
Thermography is one of the most rapidly evolving equine diagnostic tools.
Intensive training of horses is associated with significant physical demands on
the musculoskeletal system, contributing to a high incidence of injury. Injury
causes changes in blood circulation and thereby changes in body surface tem-
perature. Thermography can detect these changes in body surface temperature
and hence can be used to diagnose and monitor injury, disease and work over-
load of the musculoskeletal system (Tendon, Ligaments)

Equine case : opthamology

What you see here is a positive fluorescein eye stain. The patient has a melting corneal ulcer secondary to trauma or infection to the eye or improper medications with steroids opthamologically.

It is usually performed to confirm the corneal ulcers.

CVS Equine has this facility to properly manages such eye conditions and to treat them after diagnosis with latest technologies.

Thoracocentesis
It is the procedure to collect and drain excess fluid from thoracic cavity. It is being done carefully by avoiding damage to vital organs in chest in standing position with help of local anesthetic. Draining of fluids is both therapeutic as well as diagnostic. Healthy horses don't have excess fluids in their thoracic (chest) cavity. So fluid accumulation in chest cavity is pathological which can be detect by ultrasounography. Fluid accumulation can happen secondary to infection (pleuropneumonia) ,trauma (hemothorax) and systemic inflammation . CVS Equine has done this procedure in a Polo pony successfully.
