Birds hobby
If you have money to burn, you can buy your way to the top by purchasing birds of winning top bench quality. That gene pool will keep you winning and moving up no matter how you pair them for a good 2 to 4 years. If you rely only on ego, you will find you are winning less and become disappointed unless you hit the bank account some more to keep your birds winning. If you have patience and the ability to allow yourself to be mentored and learn proper husbandry, breed with the standard in mind and understand faults and desired features, you can earn your way to the top with lesser priced birds. You will also earn much desired respect in the hobby. If you are smart you will learn your way to the top by starting with beginner birds that the average hobbyist can afford. Show a willingness to get to meetings, ask questions, talk and visit with other breeders, assist at shows and so on. There are people in this hobby that will actually GIVE decent birds to those few people that actually exude interest and a willingness to learn all about the hobby! We like to help newbies get going and see new faces coming into the hobby - but we want to know you are serious and going to be an asset and not a flash in the pan. Too many people throw out crazy money in a rush to get to champion in a few short years. Many of them flaunt their ability to spend money and set the tone. They either don't bother to make friends in the hobby along the way or grow bored and disillusioned and are gone from the hobby in a few short years. It is not just the goal of winning top bench or how much you can sell birds for that should be the focus of why you want to breed and exhibit. It should be the joy of owning these awesome budgies, personal gratification and the camaraderie and friendships along the way that should be welcomed and enjoyed that truly make this a hobby a wonderful experience. If you have money to burn, you can buy your way to the top by purchasing birds of winning top bench quality.
