Nutritional Requirements
Lovebirds should be fed a varied diet consisting of seeds, pellets, and fresh fruits and vegetables. Breeding-age hens should be placed on a calcium supplement to counteract the nutrients that they lose during egg-laying. They should also be fed with soft food to prepare them for the season.

Nesting Requirements
Lovebirds need a nest box in which to lay their eggs. The proper size nest for a lovebird is about 12 inches on each side, with an entrance hole about three inches in diameter. Proper nesting material, such as shredded paper, clean straw / dried grass or wood shavings (i.e., Aspen shavings or wood chips). The larger wood chips the better, so the parents don't feed it to the babies or the chicks accidentally ingest it.
Lovebirds can be kept in a colony. They would breed as well. Usually they would have aggression there are evidences of fights among the birds, experts also gave their opinion that the more dominant ones would dictate their dominance. It is also seen that the dominant pairs would get hold of more than one nest boxes. But at the same time there are benefits of keeping them in a colony like time saving for their food and other requirements. So we need to gauge the pros and cons of colonies for lovebirds as compared to single cage for a pair and then decide what to do.
Lovebirds are very active birds, so a cage best suited to adequately house them must provide a lot of space. Remember, they are extremely active birds. A minimum of 32” x 20” x 20” (81 x 50 x 50 cm) per pair of birds is recommended with about four perches, feed and water dishes and an area for a bath
