During the fourteen months Oreo and Bobo stayed with me, they became protective of me – on guard to attack any cat that got the tiniest bit aggressive with me. A cat would meow at me the wrong way, and their fur would get puffed up, and I'd need to pet them to let them know everything was okay.

Polar opposites in most things, they'd unite in their love for me and jealous hate for my cat, and for each other.

On the morning of Eid 2021, my family called me down to have halwa poori with them, but I was too busy looking after cats and responding to clients to join them. In 2022, I had a client come in to drop off their cat on the morning of Eid day. I hadn’t showered or changed, and growing up in a culture that required I dress up on Eid morning, I apologized to the client’s family for still being in my PJs. I spent the Eid in PJs still, looking after cats. In 2023, my help ditched me, and I was exhausted managing everything on my own.

In 2024, I decided to dress up and visit my family and neighbors, and took out my Eid dress on chaand raat. The dress hung in my bathroom for days: Every day following Eid, I told myself I’ll dress up the next day. I left home for the first time on the third day of Eid — in a t-shirt and jeans, with oil in my hair — to join my mom and sister’s family at Packages Mall, still responding to clients as I made my way into the mall. On the fourth day, I rushed out of the house to join them on a last-minute trip to Trampoline Park — still in a t-shirt and jeans and oil in my hair. By the fifth day of Eid, I accepted Eid had passed, and I couldn’t play dress-up this year.

My home, February 29, 2024. In February, the mornings were chilly. The sun came up on the terrace in the afternoon, and I sat on the sofa — with the sun on my back — to get some work done. All the leaves from the jasmine vines fell off, and I waited for it to be spring. Oreo and Bobo, two cats in boarding, were new additions to my terrace. I spent many mornings here with the people and cats I loved.

My home in January, with my cat, the birds chirping, distant sounds of neighbors, a child, their dogs, the ping of a microwave and the cooing of a Koel.

The Lahore Cat Lady has the cutest booth on all pet shows.

The Lahore Cat Lady also sends you photos of your cats, so you can enjoy your time away stress-free. She also attaches a GPS tracker to them, so you can know where your cats are at all times.
